IN OUR LAST DEVOTIONAL piece, we saw that the only time spouses should abstain from sexual intimacy is when they have cordially agreed to fast and pray.

Our anchor scripture for today tells Spouses what to do after each period of Fasting. They are to quickly resume sexual intimacy.
God goes further to disclose why they ought to promptly resume sexual congress after the Fast.

First, it’s because there’s an enemy who’s always on their trail seeking to devour them and sexual negligence after a Fast is one of the opportunities he cashes upon to bring Saints to moral and spiritual ruin.
“BE SOBER, BE VIGILANT; BECAUSE YOUR ADVERSARY THE DEVIL, AS A ROARING LION, WALKETH ABOUT, SEEKING WHOM HE MAY DEVOUR.”(1 Peter 5:8) A quick return to the Marriage Bed to continue sexual intimacy is not a sign of weakness but a mark of sobriety, consciousness of spiritual warfare and obedience to divine instructions. It’s adherence to God’s panacea for staying above the widespread epidemic of sexual immorality: “NEVERTHELESS, TO AVOID FORNICATION, LET EVERY MAN HAVE HIS OWN WIFE, AND LET EVERY WOMAN HER OWN HUSBAND.”(1 Corinthians 7:2)
Kindly permit me to present the verse above in a more vivid way as I’ve done in Marriage Seminars:
“NEVERTHELESS, TO AVOID FORNICATION LET EVERY MAN FUCK HIS OWN WIFE AND LET EVERY WOMAN FUCK HER OWN HUSBAND.”(1 Corinthians 7:2). This is what God wants to see in all proper Marriages. Enough of useless and profitless pretending.

Secondly, God orders Spouses to quickly resume sexual intimacy after a Fast because He is the God of all flesh and the Creator of all men and women; and knows that married couples, whom He has not given the Grace of Celibacy lack the ability to stay for too long without sexual nourishment. They must not pretend or assume to have what He hasn’t given them and must therefore resume sexual congress soon after a Fast.

In the Spiritual Life in Christ, OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE, therefore obey God’s simple instruction and get back into the Bed of Love, soon after every Fast, to avoid giving the devil a chance to drag you into sin and bring God’s matchless name to disrepute.
