Don’t Be A Beast In Your Marriage

Scripture:
‘Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.’
(Psalm 49: 20)

LONG AGO, while a young student, I holidayed in the home of a relative who lived in a fine government housing estate where was an “international marriage” or an inter racial marriage couple. The man was Nigerian while the Wife was Russian. There’s nothing wrong with “international marriage” or inter racial marriage
but theirs was a very poor advertisement for it. As if it wasn’t bad enough that this dark and diminutive man was a drunkard, he was also a cruel wife beater! He would beat and beat the young Eastern European woman who had followed from him from far away Russia in the name of love and marriage. It’s most inhumane to bring woman from so far away only to treat her like trash.

The Bible tells us that Marriage is an estate of HONOUR.
This means that a man who has married should, if nothing else, have at least self-respect. And self-respect alone is enough restraining force to keep him from raising his hand to strike a WOMAN and that his own Wife!

Our anchor scripture is unsparing; it holds nothing back. It declares clearly that the man who in any position of honour but lacks Understanding is as the wild beasts of the forest who have neither intelligence nor conscience but are brutish and untameable savages.

A good example of savage beasts is the Lion whose reputation is only in folklores and children’s story books.

If you should live with a Lion for a day, you’ll despise and detest it because it’s noisy, destructive, unproductive and bloody. It’s only reputation is that it’s strong. But of what value is it’s strength and who benefits from it?

Understanding makes a man cherish his wife knowing that she’s a WOMAN and is tender and delicate in every sense. Understanding makes a man appreciate his wife knowing that the services she renders to him and the children daily are simply precious. Understanding makes a woman value her husband knowing that he’s a covering over her. It makes her seek for them to make the most of their union, knowing that it won’t last forever.
Understanding Makes a husband Adore his wife endlessly because he knows that she is good gift from the hands of God Who gives only good and perfect gifts.

How do we get understanding? We get understanding from the Word of God.

“The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.”(Psalm 119:130)

Are you like a Lion in your marriage; ever fierce, angry and ferocious? It’s time to change. Remember, Lions are worthless. Bees produce honey, Cows provide milk and beef, Dogs provide security, Cats eliminate rats but Lions? No services that add to the life of men and women. If you’ve been a Lion in your marriage thus far, it’s time to REPENT! It’s to CHANGE!

Marriage is an estate of HONOUR and it’s important you conduct yourself with HONOUR AND DECORUM in all your interactions with your spouse.
