IN THE EARLY DAYS OF MY Christian life, my outings were only to my workplace and to my local church which was in a classroom in one of the local primary schools. In those days, small churches like ours were ridiculed and called Mushroom Churches! Hahaha!
But life is beautifully amazing because many of those mushroom churches have become gigantic cathedrals today.
Well, in those days, each time I went to town and happened to see a lady whose dress was above the knees, I felt a sharp sense of guilt that I had sinned. If I saw a lady whose blouse revealed even a little of her cleavage, oh, I was in trouble! I would ask God to forgive me. “Oh, what shall I do with these two lustful eyes of mine?,” I lamented again and again! In short, I confessed, “my sins” until I was worn, weary and discouraged; and the Christian Life began to look like a great burden and not the “Rest” that Jesus promised(Matt. 11:28).
Then one day, something happened. The Blessed Holy Spirit came to my rescue! He made me see that I had misunderstood
the words of Jesus in Matt. 5:28. He made me understand that Jesus didn’t say, “whosoever looks at a woman has sinned”. Rather, He said, anyone who looks at a woman “TO LUST AFTER HER” has committed adultery in his heart! On hearing this ministration in my spirit, great joy flooded my heart, as I now knew that it was Satan that had been accusing me all along! That’s how I became free!
Today, I believe that many married Christians are walking in similar error in the area of Sex. Many of them equate Marital Sex with Fornication and therefore feel that marital sex isn’t really good but “a necessary evil.” They therefore avoid it as much as they can and suppress their appetite for it just in the same way they are to mortify fornication.
The truth however is that Marital Sex and Fornication are two different things. Marital Sex is God’s precious Gift to Spouses while Fornication is a rebellious use of Sex in obedience to the devil. They are worlds apart. Marital Sex should be celebrated with gratitude to God while Fornication should be vehemently hated and mortified or put to death as our anchor scripture commands.
Our anchor verse pointedly mentioned EVIL CONCUPISCENCE which is: A strong Lust for the wrong forms of sex that include Fornication, Adultery, Lesbianism, Paedophilia, Sodomy, etc.
Now, when you hear of Evil Concupiscence, it also means that there is GOOD CONCUPISCENCE! This is the Strong, God-given appetite for Sex with your legitimate Wife or Husband. It’s not a Sin to have a robust and ravenous appetite for sexual intimacy with your Mate. In fact, it’s Crucial in marriage! Our spiritual parents like Abraham, Moses, etc, were men with healthy and robust appetite for sexual love which is why they were able to marry new wives in their sunset years!
God is pleased when you have a strong sexual appetite, just like a parent is happy when his child eats well every day.
When your Appetite for food is suddenly low, do you rejoice that you can now spend less on food and save some money? No. Rather, you are alarmed and you seek for how your appetite would be restored.
Similarly, you should be concerned if you’re experiencing a decline in your sex drive. Even if you feel that you don’t need it, your Spouse certainly needs it. And so does the wellbeing of your Marriage.
Thankfully, one of the things you could ask and receive from God by prayer is GOOD CONCUPISCENCE, which is a vigorous sexual appetite. God gives it.
If you need it, don’t keep quiet. Go before the Throne of Grace and ask in Faith and God will give it to you.
