WHEN ABRAHAM HAD VERY IMPORTANT VISITORS as recorded in our anchor scripture passage above, he could have ordered Sarah to get into the Kitchen like the “Emperor Husbands” and the “Executive Husbands” normally do. After all, she was A WOMAN. But that’s not what he did.
He told her to bake CAKES ONLY. He ordered a servant to kill and dress the calf while himself took care of Milk and Butter. And when everything was ready, he personally presented the meal to the visitors! And while they ate, he waited on them, to give them salt, tooth picks or to supply them more “bottled water”. Now, don’t forget that Abraham was not female but male; a spiritual giant and friend of God. Besides, he was at this time 99 years old and a multi-Billionaire! Yet, he chose to be personally involved in the hospitality service of that day and to save Sarah the stress of cooking, serving the meal and waiting on the guests. Is this romantic? No, it isn’t. But is it a demonstration of true Love? Yes, it certainly is. This is what God expects to see husbands do. At least once in a while.
Doing domestic work doesn’t make you less manly. Abraham had over 300 servants in his household, but chose to do domestic work alongside his wife! That’s a demonstration of servant leadership which Christ our Saviour also practiced while on earth. All throughout the three and half years that the disciples were with him, he served them EVERY DAY!
“For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? BUT I AM AMONG YOU AS HE THAT SERVETH.”(Luke 22:27)
Many Husbands wonder why their wives aren’t anymore romantic, passionate and affectionate. Well, the charming honeymoon girl has become overworked, stressed out and tired. And what you have now have is a “deromantized” madam whose craving most nights is to be left alone to just get
a good night’s sleep.
Sir, get in the kitchen and wash plates for three days and you’ll have an idea of how tasking kitchen work is. Not to talk of tending to the numerous needs of small and growing children. Add to this the load of her secular job’s demands or her business and you’ll have an idea of the incredible work your wife does for the family everyday.
Enough of playing the Emperor or Chief Executive in the home. Yes, you might be the Managing Director in the office but once at home, please be humble, compassionate and considerate. Think of your wife. Relieve her of every weight so she could once again be the vivacious honeymoon girl that she was at the beginning of your marriage.
