JUST A FEW DAYS AGO(OR WAS IT YESTERDAY?), I read an Online news headline about a married female youth corper committing adultery on the very first day of arrival at the NYSC camp! She had just left her husband, perhaps not up to 48 hours and for her that was too long a time for her body to endure abstinence and the next thing was to collapse into the arms of another man while her husband was waiting at home! If this happened within the first 48 hours of her leaving home, what would happen in the next weeks and months, before she would go back home to meet her husband smiling as if nothing happened?

A highly placed government official thought it necessary for his most cherished wife to go home to visit her kith and kin. Of course, he was a polygamous man. When his wife returned and he went to bed with her, innocently thinking that she kept herself for him all the while that she was away, the outcome was different. He instantly caught Gonorrhea from her. And because of his exalted position, he couldn’t bring himself to go to the hospital or the pharmacies to buy drugs. He was forced by his circumstances to asked someone else to help him get drugs.

So the big question is: can a married woman or man live triumphantly above the widespread sin of ADULTERY? The answer is a loud and reverberating YES! And indeed, more than YES. And that’s where our topic for today’s devotional piece comes in as the best answer. You can shake your head at the devil when he dangles his putrid piece of flesh called adultery before you, laugh at him very hard and walk away without looking back!!! How do you do this?
Here’s how:

1 IF YOU’RE A CAPTIVE TO THIS LEPROUS AND FOUL SIN, FALL UPON YOUR KNEES BEFORE CHRIST JESUS URGENTLY.
This is the first step for all men and women who are trapped in the deadly sin called Adultery. You may hold a key post in your local church but that doesn’t matter now. Repent of this horrible SIN before it destroys you and sends you into hell fire forever. Perhaps, you’re a Pastor’s Wife or a Pastor, humble yourself and admit what has happened to you: you have fallen from Grace and need God to have mercy upon you and do a new work of regeneration and restoration in you. Whoever you may be: if you’re married and you’re trapped in this Iron Cage called Adultery, FALL ON YOUR KNEES in your bedroom and cry out to JESUS CHRIST, THE SAVIOUR OF SINNERS TO SAVE YOU AND HE WILL DELIVER YOU. You badly need to be delivered. PRAY OUT YOUR HEART!!! CRY OUT TO THE SAVIOUR TO SAVE YOU AND HE WILL.

2 PICK UP YOUR BIBLE AND READ ROMANS 6:1-14 SOBERLY. Make this portion of the Bible your Extra devotional food for the next one week. This portion of scripture reveals to you the mystery of the Power of Holiness and triumph over sin by the work of Christ through His atoning death and resurrection from the dead. According to this portion of scripture, you died with Jesus when He died and you rose from the dead with Him when He resurrected from the dead. According to these scriptures, YOU ARE DEAD TO SIN. Wow!!! In other words, you are a dead man/woman as far as Sin is concerned!
Verse 11, which is our anchor scripture then tells you to account yourself as someone who is completely DEAD as far as Sin is concerned! It’s saying: SEE YOURSELF AS A DEAD MAN/WOMAN AS FAR AS SIN IS CONCERNED.
How will all these work for you? That’s where practically affirming and confessing Romans 6: 11 comes in. Declare again and again and again that you are dead to Sin. And as you already know, even if a woman undresses right before a dead man, he is not moved one bit. Always see yourself as having died with Christ and resurrected with Him and the hold of Sin over you will be broken. The desire for all the works of the flesh will die automatic death. It’s real. It works.

3 A DEEP AND FERVENT LOVE FOR YOUR SPOUSE AND AN ARDENT COMMITMENT TO YOUR MARRIAGE COVENANT
The third “force” that will empower you to laugh at adultery and walk away is a deep love for your spouse and an uncompromising commitment to your marriage covenant with your wife to which God Almighty was and is a Witness. Only a fool believes that there’s something better in the women or men outside their marriage. Only a deluded and brainwashed fool would do so! Have you forgotten that the same God made them all and ensured that when it comes to sexual performance none would underperform? When you understand that your Spouse is excellent and you love them, you’ll not be deceived to give in to adultery. You’ll be in command of your mind and body and say a firm NO to Satan’s filthy and stenchy offer.
When you know and are mindful that your marriage is a covenant life that involves God, you’ll honour both God and your spouse and reject adultery. It’s this kind of consciousness that Joseph had when he answered Potiphar’s wife: “HOW CAN I DO SUCH GREAT WICKEDNESS AND SIN AGAINST GOD?” He was not momentarily blinded to see Adultery as “enjoyment.” No! He saw it exactly as it was: GREAT WICKEDNESS AND SIN AGAINST GOD.

4 WALKING IN SOBERNESS AND WISDOM TO KNOW THAT SATAN NEVER GIVES ANYTHING GOOD BUT ONLY WHAT WILL STEAL, KILL AND DESTROY YOUR LIFE AND GLORIOUS DESTINY
God can never offer you a beautiful woman or a handsome man for you to commit sexual sin with them. When ever you see or meet such offers, you’ll be a stark fool to feel that it’s an opportunity you must not miss. That man or woman is most likely carrying HIV/AIDS or some other sexually transmitted diseases (STD) which you have no way of knowing until they’ve infected you with it. As you sleep with them, you’ll regret it the rest of your life!

These four spiritual steps will make you triumphant when adultery rears it’s ugly head where you are. You’ll drive it away just like you’d drive an unwanted animal away.

Don’t make Adultery look like some giant that’s controlling everyone. No. Those who are dead to Sin are living triumphantly above it all the time. You could become one of them from today.
