AS WE SAW IN YESTERDAY’S DEVOTIONAL PIECE, you are not in your Spouse’s life to only enjoy swell romantic times. You are there as God’s Agent of Love and Rescue. You are the Samaritan with the Horse, the Oil and the Wine stationed in their life against the times of trials and the inevitable storms of Life.
In today’s anchor scripture, we can see how the Good Samaritan saved the life of the dying Man. We have much to learn from him so as to be able to perform our duties of being God’s Agent of Love and Rescue in the life of our Partner when ever the need arises.
(1) THE GOOD SAMARITAN STOPPED HIS JOURNEY AND WENT OVER TO THE DYING MAN. Here was a man traveling somewhere and who never planned to stop on the way. When he, however, looked at the dying man and saw his critical condition, the instinct of compassion in him went to work instantly. He didn’t think twice to know what he should do about his journey. He knew immediately that everything about his trip had to wait. The dying man’s life, for him, was the most important thing at the moment. He quickly unpacked his luggage brought out his Oil and Wine and commenced work on the wounded man.
Spouses, when your Mate is in a critical situation, learn to set aside your needs, however important they may be. It doesn’t even have to be a life-threatening situation. We are talking about any important need that require urgent attention. Prioritizing your Mate’s need above yours at such a time will build up your marriage and make it stronger after the Storm is over.
(2) THE GOOD SAMARITAN PUT EVERYTHING HE HAD WITH HIM INTO SAVING THE LIFE OF THE DYING MAN.
He treated the dying stranger with his Oil and Wine.
He carefully lifted him up, walked him gently to where his horse stood
and placed him on the beasts; and relocated him from the point of danger to a swank suite in a cozy Hotel. Just think about that! Consider this man’s kind of mindset! He treated a total stranger as if the man was his younger brother of the same parents. There was no half-hearted commitment. He gave the man his very best. Spouses, please learn from this. When meeting a need in your Mate’s life, do you put in very your best? Do you give everything within your reach? Do you do all within your power? Most Spouses don’t and that’s why their relationships are fragile, shallow and strained most of the time. When you give your very best, the receiver is no fool. He/She will one day acknowledge your Love.
(3) THE GOOD SAMARITAN ENSURED THE TOTAL RECOVERY OF THE WOUNDED STRANGER.
Having relocated the stranger to a Hotel, he stayed with him and took care of him. He went on to make an advance payment to the Hotel Manager for his upkeep while he’d be away and committed himself to paying whatever extra charges there’ll be to clear after his return. Can we see this man’s TOTAL LOVE? This is what God wants to see in Marriages. Give each other UNRESERVED LOVE AND TOTAL COMMITMENT.
When you live this way your marriage will grow from strength to strength, and move from one level of glory to a higher one consistently.
