ON BEING CAUGHT RED-HANDED IN THE ACT OF ADULTERY, the woman in our anchor scripture for yesterday knew that a horrifying death awaited her. But Christ’s intervention saved her life. But how was her life from that time forward? Obviously, it couldn’t be what it used to be.
In our present world that overflows with perversions, Adultery remains a hated Sin in all parts of the world. Although many nations and their governments support Gay Marriage, Lesbianism, and other obscenities for political advantage, they don’t support Adultery. As blind as these governments are, they still don’t stomach Adultery as to promote it. Why? Because all human beings know that Adultery is one of the worst Sins. It’s always deliberate act. Further more, it’s the height of insolence and mockery of the Man whose Wife is ravished. This is why God pronounced the death penalty on the culprits, both male and female.
So when Jesus saved that Adulteress from death, don’t think she went home to live a restful and peaceful life. Even though the Bible doesn’t tell us what became of her after she left Christ, we can use our sanctified minds to arrive at some near-accurate conclusions. Don’t forget that at this time, the Old Testament was heavily in force. She’d escaped the thousands of stones that would have pounded her to death but certainly not the the Jewish people.
(1) Christ had told her: “Go and sin no more.” Where was she to go? Her husband’s house? He was waiting for her in flaming fury.
(2) Let’s assume she went to her parents. Do you think they’d be lenient with her in the face of the shame she had brought on the family? They probably told as she approached the house: ” You’re a disgrace! Go back to where you’re coming from.”
(3) She probably ended up in the streets. Of course people must have jeered at her; told her to her face that she wasn’t fit to still be alive in Israel.
The lesson here is that even though God can forgive your Adultery, the society awaits you with their full judgement. And it will be very harsh and could drag on for the rest of your life.
So it’s better not to commit Adultery.
Let’s read the experience of a man who committed Adultery:
“For five years, I was blissfully married to the woman of my dreams. Together, we welcomed a beautiful daughter into the world, and despite our fair share of challenges, our bond remained unbreakable. I thought I had found my happily ever after.
But then, I made a grave mistake.
During a trip with old school friends, I was regaled with tales of excitement and forbidden indulgences. Temptation whispered seductively in my ear, urging me to explore a path I knew was wrong. Ignoring my conscience, I succumbed to curiosity and booked a hotel room upon my return home.
Just days later, I found myself in a situation I never thought I would be in, seeking solace in the arms of a stranger. But the reality fell short of the fantasy, leaving me feeling empty and ashamed. The guilt weighed heavily on my shoulders as I returned home to the loving embrace of my family.
Seeing my daughter’s innocent joy shattered the illusion I had allowed myself to entertain. Overwhelmed with remorse, I confessed my transgression to my wife, bracing myself for her judgment. With steely resolve, she made the difficult decision to leave, prioritizing her self-respect above all else.
In the aftermath, I watched helplessly as my marriage crumbled before my eyes. Divorce papers arrived swiftly, marking the end of a chapter I had once cherished. Now, six years later, I reside in the empty shell of our former home, haunted by the consequences of my actions.
My wife has found happiness anew, while I remain trapped in a cycle of regret and loneliness. The lesson learned is a harsh one: never take for granted the love of those who hold you dear, for the price of betrayal is a heavy one to pay.”
