SORROW NOT FOR GOD HAS YOUR BEST INTEREST AT HEART

Scripture:
‘1 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. 2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? 3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.’
(JOHN 9:1-3)

MANY TIMES WHEN WE READ accounts of the painful experiences of people in the Bible, we just run through their stories without much thought about how they must have felt and the tears they might have shed.

Our anchor scripture passage presents the story of a man that was born blind. Have you ever considered the couple that gave birth to him and the burden of raising him?

During the pregnancy, the parents anticipated the birth of a normal child. But not long after he was born they realized to their shock and dismay that he was blind! Just imagine the heartbreak and the pain. The question the disciples asked in our anchor scripture probably haunted that couple for years, yet they had no answers. But thanks be to God that Christ answered it: the couple hadn’t sinned! The blindness was God’s making to the intent that His WORK should be manifest through him! Oh, the mysterious ways of God!

When you read the account of the barrenness of Rachel, you’ll find that God closed her womb for a purpose:

“And when the Lord saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.”(Genesis 29:31)

I don’t know what happened in your home and family that has made your enjoyment of your marriage to drop. Could it be the birth of a dumb child? The death of a cherished teenage child and your heir? An unexplainable and persistent situation of financial difficulty despite your love for God and service in His Vineyard? Could it be a sudden impotence and erectile dysfunction on the part of your husband?

Whatever trial and harsh situation you are faced with at this time as a couple, draw encouragement from our anchor passage for today.

1) Stop thinking that your Sin brought about the situation because it’s not so; except you’re sure and know of such a Sin. If you don’t, then stop blaming yourself or your Mate.
2) Jesus revealed what the disciples least expected: that the blindness of that couple’s son was God’s making and for the manifestation of His Work! If this couples’ sad case was God’s making, what makes you think that yours is different? And if it’s God’s making to the end that He might be glorified, why should you still be sorrowful over it instead of giving Him thanks?
3) God brought the blindness of the young man to an end by opening his eyes! So also will He bring your own case to an end by a glorious miracle that will honour His great Name. Therefore, CHEER UP!

In this present life, we will never understand the mysteries surrounding so many things that touch our lives. But one thing is sure: God has our best interest at heart and He’s minded to give us an expected end.

So, shift from the position of sorrow and move into the arena of Joy!

The Bible tells us:

“Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.”(Philippians 4:4)
So, switch over to JOY right away. REJOICE in the Lord. Rejoice in your marriage. Open the barrel of the Wines of Romantic Love and freely drink and gladden each other’s heart because it’s meant to be used at such a time as this.
