IF YOU’RE PRIVILEGED TO MEET YOUR STATE GOVERNOR, how would you talk to him? I’m not talking of your country’s President. I mean your State Governor. How would you talk to him when you meet him? With profound respect, isn’t it? Yes, you’d talk to him with so much respect, even though he’s not the President! Infact, you’ll count it a great honour to have audience with him and to talk with him one-on-one.
Why? Because of his status. Even though he’s not the President, he occupies a lofty office that you greatly respect. He is the Executive Governor of your dear State. And because you highly respect him, you will not make the mistake of shouting at him, no matter how angry a person you are ordinarily. While your time with Mr. Governor lasts, your senses are fully alert and you control yourself, minding what you say, how you say them and how you behave: all because you’re with Mr.Governor!
What can we learn from the last two paragraphs? They’re basically these:
(1) The amount of RESPECT you have for any one (or anything) determines how you treat them. You dare not treat a Governor shabbily for any reason and expect to go scot free. You can’t give anger as an excuse for misconduct towards a Governor. His security details will teach you the lesson of your life!
(2) The amount of respect you have for a person CONTROLS OR REGULATES YOUR BEHAVIOUR OR CONDUCT towards them. That’s why you hear some people say: “It’s because she was the one, that’s why I kept quiet. Otherwise,…!”
Now, the question is: does the Governor personally contribute anything to your Life? “No!” you answer. If you profoundly respect a man that contributes nothing to your life just because you know that that’s the right thing to do, how much more should you RESPECT AND HONOUR your beloved Spouse who contributes so much to your life ON DAILY BASIS?
If you can never shout at or be rude or insolent to your State Governor, General Overseer, Bishop, Senior Pastor, etc; who are also mere human beings like your Spouse, all because of the name or title of their offices, how much more should you honour and respect your Spouse, who bears the name Husband/Wife, an office in Marriage: the very first institution God established on Earth before establishing Governments and the Church?
In the sight of God, your Spouse is the greatest and the most important human being in your Life! If you treat your political and religious leaders with decorum, then treat your Spouse with so much more!
Our anchor scriptures are very clear on this. Our first anchor scripture commands husbands to HONOUR THEIR WIVES while the second anchor scripture tells wives to REVERENCE THEIR HUSBANDS! These things beautify and sweeten matrimonies.
In this matter of Spouses giving mutual deep respect to each, age is no factor. The husband may be older but that is no reason for him not to deeply respect his wife. Why? Because the same man will most definitely respect the wife of the Governor and may even genuflect for her, should he be privileged to meet her. He’ll also deeply respect the wife of his General Overseer, Bishop, Senior Pastor; irrespective of their their being younger than him.
If you respect these younger women because IT’S THE RIGHT THING TO DO, then respect your wife too; even though she’s younger than you.
When you both consistently respect each other deeply and profoundly, friction and misunderstandings will be greatly reduced in your relationship and peace and tranquility will multiply and flourish in your home.
