IN OUR ANCHOR SCRIPTURE PASSAGE for today, Michal the first wife of King David saw him dancing during an important religious ceremony. Instead of appreciating the humility of King David in dancing for God openly, she was offended and DESPISED HIM IN HER HEART (vs. 16).
As soon as David stepped foot in his Palace with his royal entourage and security officers, guess who was first to come out to meet him? It was “Audacious” Queen Michal! She didn’t come to present drinking water in a gloriously beautiful bowl to her husband as a token of welcome. She didn’t even think it necessary to do the traditional and compulsory obeisance to honour the King. Her mission was to CONFRONT HIM and to tell him point-blank what a fool he had been in dancing so shamelessly in public; and that’s exactly what she did. She didn’t mind the fact that the King was surrounded by a crowd of dignitaries that followed into the Palace. She cared less if they heard her stinging and reviling rebuke.
Well, because she was King David’s wife, his security officers could not touch her.
But David himself answered Michal instantly. And on that day, she fell out of David’s favour FOREVER. Her beauty, physique, shape, skin, royal breeding and everything in her as a woman that used to attract him as a man: all of them faded and withered instantly and became completely undesirable to King David from that moment and he never touched her until she got to the age of menopause and went on to become an old woman. She lived in the Palace like a Widow, even though her husband was well and alive; all because of the reckless use of her tongue.
As the last verse of our anchor scripture passage tells us, Michal was childless all her years in the house of David, until her death.
Dear Spouses, please, watch your tongue! Recognize your limits in marriage and stay within it.
Never try to play the Holy Spirit’s role in the life of your Husband or Wife. There are corrections that are best left for God to effect. Thankfully, you can always pray secretly for your Mate in your prayer closet and God can use your prayer to meet the needs in their life. But don’t go beyond your bounds.
Finally, always remember that you can fall out of favour with your Spouse. Do all you can to avoid it. Michal fell out of David’s favour because of her rude, crude, cutting and injurious TONGUE. Avoid her mistake like a plague.
