THE BIBLE SAYS:
“A Feast is made for laughter and wine makes merry…” (Ecclesiastes 10:19a). To live joyfully with your Spouse in marriage as we’re commanded in our anchor Scripture, you must intentionally and deliberately bring “LAUGHTER” and “MERRY”(GLADNESS) into your union from time to time; and trust me, they’ll have no option but to “come” if you’ll do the right things! And one of the right things is to create a FEAST from time to time.
If you’re expecting to “live happily ever after” without making deliberate efforts you’ll be disappointed.
You must take steps to bring joy into your relationship.
Let me share this personal experience with you. One day, long ago, when I was in Kogi State, Middle Belt region of Nigeria, I travelled from Ugwolawo to Lokoja, Kogi State capital, for a Ministry assignment. While in the Motor Park on my way back, I bought a bottle of a locally made soft drink(that looked so much like Fanta) just to quench my thirst. But before I could drink it, a thought sneaked into my mind, “Why not take this drink home and share it with your Wife?” But this drink wasn’t special. Infact, it was by far less known than Coca-cola or Sprite, which are well recognized international brands. Well, I chose to obey that thought. My thirst could wait.
After I got home, I brought out the small plastic bottle and told my Wife I’d brought something for the two of us to share. She looked at the small bottle with excitement and said we should call the children to also partake of it. Wow! This bottle was smaller than the bottle of Coca-Cola and apparently held less content. But d’you know what? We shared this drink as if it was some exotic wine! Every one was happy and that got me thinking: “It doesn’t cost much to ignite JOY in the home and marriage!”
You needn’t wait until you’re given some big Government appointment to celebrate. That’s waiting for too long and that’s what’s happening in many homes and marriages: the Spouses have been waiting for ten years, for fifteen years; waiting for some huge, earthshaking financial windfall so they could head for the Bahamas or the Maldives and lodge in some swanky “big-name” hotel. No! You needn’t wait for a holiday in some distant country. Ignite JOY today, right in your bedroom. Once you’ve locked it’s door, you have all the privacy you need.
You needn’t wait until you can kill a cow and invite neighbours before you could make each other happy.
The Bible says:
“Better is a dinner of vegetables and herbs where love is present than a fattened ox served with hatred.”(Proverbs 15:17 AMP)
A meal of herbs simply signifies the kind of food and drinks that are within your means or income. Feast on them with joy and in unity of heart and you’ll see gladness flow copiously in your union. And when you do this often and on, there’ll always be a flowing stream of joy and gladness in your union.
