IT’S TRUE THAT IN THE OLD TESTAMENT ERA, the form of Adultery that constituted Sin was the physical act itself. This being so, King David having stumbled on the sight of a bathing woman feasted on her nakedness with relish for as long as she was busy bathing.

Unknown to him, he was allowing the natural video recording machine of HIS MIND to record what would haunt and tempt him fiercely afterwards.

After sometime, the “Bathroom Movie” finally came to an end and the King watched longingly as the voluptuous, hour-glass shaped Beauty, walked out of the bathroom, bringing his “Interesting Show” to an end.

By this time, the fire of LUST and evil concupiscence had engulfed the King and the more the Giant-Killer tried to put out the gigantic flames, the more he failed.

Each time the King closed his eyes, pictures of “The Bathing Beauty” filled the screen of his mind.

He called one of his trusted Aides, described the woman and told him to discreetly enquire about her. The Aide didn’t object to his imperial demands but marvelled at his impeccably pious King making such an enquiry at dusk. It was most unlike him.

It wasn’t long and the report came in. She was: MRS. BATHSHEBA URIAH. The King felt sad that she was married: which meant he dared not touch her. But just then he heard a voice in his thoughts.

“But you sure could have an affair with her!

Or have you forgotten that her husband isn’t home? This is the best time you could enjoy her! Virtually all the men of the City are away to the war as you well know.”

What a brilliant idea, the King thought, smiling. But this idea wasn’t from God or even from his own mind. It was of the enemy, Satan; but David didn’t know it. And that’s why the Bible tells us to prove all things. Not all seemingly brilliant ideas that flash through your mind are of God.

Well, King David sent for the bathing woman and she innocently came; unsuspecting.

Seeing his Guest at a close range as he hosted her in one of his exclusive special rooms, the King realized she was even more beautiful than he’d thought! Sunny smiles, beautiful dentition; and dimples in her cheeks each time she smiled!

Suddenly his heart skipped a beat, warning him that he was about doing what would harm him very gravely! But he stifled the voice of his conscience. Even then, his conscience wouldn’t keep quiet. It was screaming: “Nooo! Don’t do it. This is another Man’s Wife; she’s a married woman!” But he was TOO LOST IN LUST to listen. Lust made him forget that he was a Man after God’s heart. Lust made him forget that he was a King, a Judge, a Prophet and the Sweet Psalmist of Israel. Lust made him forget his many beautiful wives, concubines and above all the delectable wives of the former King, whom the Lord gave into his bosom: women whom he dared not go near when King Saul was alive and he, David, was a mere hired Harpist in the Palace. He forgot all these dainty women as he was inflamed with LUST.

After initial conversations with the woman, he began to woo her. Once in awhile he’d listen to know if any one was spying on him.

Then they started but it didn’t even last, because he was nervous. After it was all over and she’d gone, the King wondered silently, “Is this all? Is this everything?Is it all so soon over”!

Yes, it was all so soon over. And as it turned out, she didn’t even taste any better in bed than any of his wives, concubines or the beautiful Queens of King Saul he’d inherited. She hadn’t different breasts. They were drooping just as those of his wives. And her nipples weren’t twelve; just two as those of the least of his legitimate Spouses.

And then, thick and very dark clouds of regrets and guiltiness descended on him; as the reality of his breaking the Law’s command against Adultery and it’s stern judgement dawned on him in full force. Sorrow flooded his heart. And tears filled his eyes.

And when a few weeks later the woman sent a message to him that she was pregnant, his distress and fears greatly multiplied.

Dear Spouses, please listen.

Water in America and Water in Nigeria taste the same and their capacity to quench thirst is exactly the same.

God’s Word calls sexual intimacy WATER(Proverbs 5: 15). The Water of sexual satisfaction in your Spouse is of no lower quality than the one in women or men outside. So stop letting the devil fool you.

For that one night’s escapade with someone else’s wife, King David fell into great troubles that negatively altered his life and permanently put an indelible dark smear on his hitherto glorious name.
