TODAY’S ANCHOR SCRIPTURE IS ONE VERSE that easily shows us the true

identity of Spouses.

(1) THEY ARE MALE AND FEMALE.

Marriage is a relationship of a red-blooded man and a red-blooded woman. It’s not like your office where you’re dressed in suit and tie and work with a stern face. It’s not a corporate boardroom where you’re Chairman or Director. It’s not the University where you lecture and your students meekly pay attention. It isn’t a place of formalities and rigid routines. Neither is it Church where your parishioners call you Daddy, Papa or by your ecclesiastical titles.

Sir, Ma, when you’re home from work, set aside your office name, professional titles or religious designations. Pull off and keep aside the stern and commanding looks; the air of authority and officialdom. Be a man or woman as God created you; and bring out the fullness of your gender because Marriage is the “natural habitat” God gave you to freely express your maleness or femaleness for your mutual enjoyment.

King Solomon was the world’s wisest man in his time yet in all his wisdom, one of the things he couldn’t understand was the “strong chemistry” that causes a man and a woman to be romantically attracted to each other:

“Three things are too wonderful for me, yes, four I cannot understand:

The way of an eagle in the sky,

the way of a serpent upon a rock,

The way of a ship on the high seas,

and THE WAY OF A MAN WITH A WOMAN.” (Proverbs 30:18-19 NABRE)

Well, it’s like Solomon forgot our anchor scripture: GOD CREATED THE MAN AND THE WOMAN and filled them with THE POWER TO BE ROMANTICALLY DRAWN to each other.

God wants to see that POWER OF ATTRACTION pull you towards each other again and again all day long. It’s proof that your marriage is healthy. And as an individual Spouse, it’s a proof that you have a healthy love life if you’re constantly attracted to your marriage partner.

According to 2 Timothy 3:3 one the marks of the end-time is the absence of NATURAL AFFECTION in the hearts of men and women. In your marriage ensure that there’s fullness of natural affection between you and your Mate.

Natural affection is the natural love that exists between those who are closely related. Example is children and their parents as well as husbands and wives. Husband and wife share a covenant bond of love that causes them to have natural affection for each other. Natural affection will make you yearn for your Spouse; hunger and thirst for one another; cherish each other’s presence and company. It will make you fond of each other so much so that you can’t stay for too long without the other.

In Marriage, what triggers romance and sexual intimacy isn’t LUST or lack of self-control. It’s the mutual physical presence of the Spouses with each other and the cordiality they share. Seeing each other, hearing one another and feeling each other evokes the desires for expression of affection and when this happens don’t block it. Allow your God-given nature express itself. Never think it’s a mark of carnality or lack of self control. You have simply expressing your blessed nature as part of our anchor scripture shows:

“MALE AND FEMALE CREATED HE THEM; AND BLESSED THEM”(Genesis 5:2a)

So, understand that your maleness and femaleness are both blessed. Use them to celebrate and rejoice in marriage because they’re blessed:

“LET THY FOUNTAIN BE BLESSED: AND REJOICE WITH THE WIFE OF THY YOUTH. LET HER BE AS THE LOVING HIND AND PLEASANT ROE; LET HER BREASTS SATISFY THEE AT ALL TIMES; AND BE THOU RAVISHED ALWAYS WITH HER LOVE.” (Proverbs 5:18-19)

(2) SPOUSES ARE ONE AND HAVE ONE NAME

Another element of the identity of Spouses that our anchor scripture reveals is their ONENESS. Even though you and your Mate are separate individuals, you’re in reality ONE FLESH and have ONE NAME: the name of the husband! Understanding of this truth and the previous one will make you and your Partner united and live in peace and harmony.
