MANY YEARS AGO, I LIVED IN A SMALL community where the government electricity power supply company provided Light only once in a very long while. We were willing to pay for electricity but they were not willing to supply. And on the few occasions when they did, the Light was so dim you wondered what you could do with it! It barely lit up your home and you couldn’t even watch the television with it. It was that bad.
In Marriage, the Power needed to keep the union full of Light and Joy is not electricity but LOVE. Your Marriage needs HIGH VOLTAGE LOVE to run on. It’s so sad that the supply of Love most Spouses contribute to their marriage is so low and so dim it’s hardly able to fully illuminate their union. Consequently, they can’t see well and so they stumble at each other!
Truth be told: your Marriage can’t do much or go far with casual, pedestrian or superficial Love.
What your Marriage needs is a constant and abundant supply of HIGH VOLTAGE LOVE to powerfully light it up and make it, in practical terms, the thrilling union God designed it to be!
It’s important that I also let you know that the High Voltage Love we’re talking about will not come from the blues. No! You must understand the great need for it, the usefulness of it and then you must consciously generate it. Yes, that’s the word: GENERATE! You must generate it because it won’t come otherwise.
So then, how do you generate High Voltage Love? It all begins with the knowledge of the Scriptures that command it. Here’s one of them:
“And above all things HAVE FERVENT CHARITY AMONG YOURSELVES: for CHARITY SHALL COVER THE MULTITUDE OF SINS.” (1 Peter 4:8)
This verse commands you and your Spouse to lay hold on or possess FERVENT CHARITY which is HIGH VOLTAGE LOVE. This is the kind of Love that’s so strong it enables you easily forgive the wrongs and transgressions of your mate, overlook their errors and see only their potentials, strengths and virtues and seek to help them reach their God appointed destiny.
Here’s another Scripture presented in two translations for clarity and easy understanding:
“CLOSE YOUR HEART TO EVERY LOVE BUT MINE; HOLD NO ONE IN YOUR ARMS BUT ME. Love is as powerful as death; passion is as strong as death itself. IT BURSTS INTO FLAME AND BURNS LIKE A RAGING FIRE.” (Songs 8:6 GNT)
“Set me as a seal on your heart, as a seal on your arm. For love is as strong as death; ardent love is as unrelenting as Sheol. LOVE’S FLAMES ARE FIERY FLAMES— THE FIERCEST OF ALL.” (Songs 8:6 HBCS)
These scriptures show that real love between Spouses isn’t like the dim electricity power in the small community where I once lived. Real LOVE is comparable to what we call “full current” which is really the normal level of electricity. The normal level of Love that should be in your marriage is HIGH VOLTAGE LOVE which is so bright it fills your marriage with LIGHT AND POWER; such that there’s no stumbling and falling at each other.
You’re going to generate High Voltage Love by gladly heeding the scripture immediately above (Songs 8:6). Set your Spouse as a seal on your heart and as a seal on your arm. In other words, you’re gonna get lovey-dovey with them at your expense. Remember you were taught in yesterday’s devotional that to be lovey-dovey means: “to be exceedingly affectionate and romantic; and not afraid to show it!”
So you’re going to practice that.
Furthermore, you’re going to: CLOSE YOUR HEART TO EVERY LOVE BUT YOUR SPOUSE’S; AND NEVER HOLD ANY OTHER PERSON IN YOUR ARMS BUT YOUR MARRIAGE PARTNER.
Set your affection on them, not because they’re perfect but because they’re exceedingly precious gift from the hand of God to your life. Let your thoughts dwell on their good points and not on their faults and weaknesses. Recall the wonderful times you’ve shared in the past. Sing Love Songs about him/her silently in your heart. Love Songs are powerful at stirring the heart to Love, Affection and Romance. Go out of your way to be generous and kind to them. Forgive any wrongs they might have commited.
Revolutionize your practice of love and marriage. Sit down and think and come up with new and imaginative ways to genuinely and unselfishly express your love to your Mate. Jesus sat down and thought and came up with the idea of washing His disciples’ feet. Use your mind and find new and novel ways to relate with your precious husband or wife in HIGH VOLTAGE LOVE. High Voltage Love is beautiful and disarming. Prayerfully walk in that dimension of love from today onward.
