BECOMING A LOVE LIFE CHAMP IN YOUR MARRIAGE

Scripture:
‘DO YOU SEE A MAN SKILLFUL AND EXPERIENCED IN HIS WORK? HE WILL STAND [IN HONOR] BEFORE KINGS (AMP)’
(PROVERBS 22: 29A)

OVER TWO DECADES AGO, A Medical Doctor opened my eyes to the “Art” in the science of medical practice. According to him, when you leave doing medical works that involve the use of your hands over a period of time, you’ll lose your proficiency in some measure.

Some years later, I was with a music maestro who expressed a similar opinion as he played his cherished musical instrument. Said he: “If you leave playing this instrument for one month, your playing skills leaves you for thirty days!”

A heavyweight boxing Champion doesn’t just happen: he works endlessly on his professional fighting skills. Good as his bodily build may be, it can’t make him a winning pugilist; it can’t replace the need to practice his art every new day. He must constantly hone his fighting skills, work on his dexterity and versatility; and expand his endurance capacity. All these contribute to his clinching the Champ’s Belt.

In marriage, it’s no different. Many couples have a laid back and unexciting relationship because they don’t practice the Art of Marriage every day.

Here are some questions: When last did you kiss your Spouse? When last did you massage your Mate’s body and for how long? When last did you cuddle up together on the couch? When last did you sit-down together and had a hearty conversation for an hour? When last did you bathe together and give each other a good back scrub(if you have an exclusive master bedroom bathroom)?

Marriage isn’t meant to just give you a new house address and a prefix. MARRIAGE IS A LIFE! And this life could become tiring and boring when you are ignorant of how to practice it rightly such that it will be gloriously exhilarating.

We’ve been drumming it here at Lovebirds’ Devotional for as many as would listen that Spouses are Married Lovers. Merely living under the same roof as husband and wife isn’t the deal. The real deal is to become practicing Lovers.

Lawyers are legal practitioners and they practice law. Doctors are medical practitioners and practice medicine. Similarly, Married Lovers are Married Love practitioners and should practice MARRIED LOVE. If Lawyers are not ashamed of some aspects of their practice, why should you be slowfooted and ashamed of certain aspects of your marital practice?

How often do you make love? When you do, who initiates it? You can’t be that Spouse who’s always frowning and refusing Sex when your Mate calls for it and expect to become a Champ in the bedroom. It won’t work. How will you be superlative and thrilling at what you do once every two months because of your wrong belief that it’s worldly or carnal? Even cutting of grass with a cutlass has some level of expertise to it. When you haven’t used a cutlass in the past one year, you’ll find the task daunting after working for just ten minutes.

A Minister of the Gospel once confessed to me very candidly that he was a failure in his Marriage. You don’t want to also be a marital failure, do you?

You better not. One of the prices to pay for marital mediocrity is that gradually your Spouse may slide down into infidelity, except they’re anchored by the fear of God.

You can become a Love Life Champ in your marriage by the grace of God. Set your heart on that goal and practice your Marital Arts everyday and you’ll get there.
