THE MASTER KEY TO GRAND SUCCESS IN MARRIAGE

Scripture:
‘FAVOUR IS DECEITFUL, AND BEAUTY IS VAIN: BUT A WOMAN THAT FEARETH THE LORD, SHE SHALL BE PRAISED.’
(PROVERBS 31: 30)

DO YOU REALLY WANT TO HAVE A PEACEFUL AND HAPPY Marriage? Are you sure you want to know and have THE MASTER KEY that unlocks the door to the Power for living a harmonious and joyous married life with your Spouse? Then take your time to read this devotional piece again and again; and digest the content.

Our anchor scripture is taken from the tail end of the chapter that speaks so glowingly about the biblical virtuous woman. The verse reveals the one singular “Key” responsible for her grand success in marriage, home and family life. That key is “THE FEAR OF THE LORD.” This key is readily available to all husbands and wives.

What is the fear of the Lord? IT IS A DEEP SEATED RESPECT AND REVERENCE FOR GOD THAT MAKES ONE REFRAIN FROM EVERYTHING THAT GOD HATES OR FORBIDS; IT ALSO MAKES YOU WANT TO OBEY AND PLEASE GOD, EVEN IF IT’S NOT CONVENIENT FOR YOU. That’s the quality that Joseph had and it kept him from accepting to commit Adultery with Potiphar’s wife:

“There is none greater in this house than I, neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Genesis 39: 9)

If Joseph could reject Adultery with a very beautiful and high-class woman when he was a Bachelor, do you think that the same Joseph would cheat on his Wife? No!

The simple reason unfaithful Spouses are cheating behind their Partner’s back is the lack of the fear of God in their hearts.

The same lack of the fear of God is the reason many wives don’t submit to their husbands as God commands and many husbands don’t love their wives as Christ loves the Church as demanded by the Scripture.

The absence of the fear of God is why Spouses would hold grudges against their Spouse and carry out revenge by subtle and even dark methods. But hear what the Bible says:

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, EVEN AS GOD FOR CHRIST’S SAKE HATH FORGIVEN YOU.” (Ephesians 4: 32) This scripture commands you to be tenderhearted and to forgive other’s faults just as God forgave you, not because you deserve it, but because of His Son Jesus Christ. Applied to Marriage it means you are to love your Spouse, not because they’re qualified for it, but because of your respect and reverence for God.

When you look at ALL THE BIBLICAL COMMANDMENTS AND INSTRUCTIONS ON MARRIAGE, none of them was written less than 2000 years ago. They’re all given by God. But do you know what? God is not gonna force you to obey them at any time. But when you have respect and reverence for Him in your heart, you will obey them, no matter how inconveniencing some of them may seem. You’ll obey them for one reason: you don’t want to displease Him.

Sarah obeyed Abraham, submitted to him and called him LORD, not because she was afraid of him, but because she respected and reverenced God and wanted to please Him.

Jacob loved Rachel intensely all his life, not because he didn’t see other women, but because He feared God and reverenced Him and knew that it was wrong for him to be unfaithful to the wife of his youth. He deliberately refused to let his other wives unseat Rachel from the lofty place he had given her in his heart.

The Virtuous Woman did her husband good all her life not because she was a fool but because she respected God and reverenced Him.

Job covenanted with his eyes not to look lustfully at young girls(Job 31:1); not because God even commanded such in His time but because He intensely loved and feared God and didn’t want to displease Him.

The fear of God is a powerful motivator to righteousness, fairness and equity. It will motivate you to be unselfish, sacrificial, devoted, compassionate, kind, truthful, transparent, caring, sincere and humane to your Marriage Partner for one dominant reason: to please God.

The first step towards having the fear of God in your heart is to repent of your sins and believe on Jesus Christ. When you believe on Jesus Christ, you become Born Again and the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in your heart. The Holy Spirit will help you to know the Lord more and more; and He will teach you the Fear of God, as you submit yourself to Christ and His Word.

πŸ·πŸ— TAKE-HOME LESSON: IT’S NOT ENOUGH THAT YOU’RE A CHURCHGOING HUSBAND OR WIFE. YOU NEED THE FEAR OF THE LORD IN YOUR HEART TO ENABLE YOU LIVE A HAPPY AND GODLY MARRIED LIFE.
