ONE OF THE DUTIES OF THE SERVANT OF GOD is to bear tidings that are obviously not going to make the hearers feel good and shout “Preach on, Sir! I hear you!!” Such is the message of today’s devotional.

In 2005, I met a colleague in Ministry who told me how he went to a certain church to minister and when he asked the congregation: “If you’re a married woman but your dowry has not yet been paid, please raise up your hand.” To his surprise, more than half of the housewives raised up their hands. These are women you’d see and think that they were properly married but alas, they were fake wives living with fake husbands in counterfeit mariages! 

Later, I had a major Marriage Seminar with a certain church, during which God used me to speak on the cruciality of paying the Dowry of a Woman. Immediately after that Seminar, some members of that Church literally RUSHED to pay the dowry of the women they’d been living with in unrighteousness.

Dear Reader, is yours a true Marriage or a fake and false union? If as a man you’re living with a woman whose dowry you haven’t paid, then what you have is no Marriage but mere cohabitation and LIVING IN SIN. Just like the teaching of Christ in John Chapter 6, this is obviously a hard message but you need to hear it for the sake of your precious Soul.

If you’re living with “a Wife” whose dowry you haven’t yet paid, then you’ve been living a life of continual fornication and as you should know by now, no Fornicator shall inherit the kingdom of God: 

“KNOW YE NOT THAT THE UNRIGHTEOUS SHALL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD? BE NOT DECEIVED: NEITHER FORNICATORS, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.”(1 Corinthians 6: 9-10)

You can’t be making love to someone’s Daughter on credit for years, enjoying her services for years and breeding children by her all in illegitimacy and still believe that you’re okay. Not even Prostitutes would accept such an arrangement.

Now, let’s go back to the Original Marriage in Eden and how God started it.

At that time, there was no human society on earth, but even then, God did not jump the important process of GIVING OUT A BRIDE PROPERLY. He could have left Eve after creating her so Adam would find her by himself and they’d start living as “husband and wife”, but He didn’t do so. He knew that it was important for Him to give Eve out in marriage: FORMERLY AND PROPERLY and that’s what He did; setting a permanent example for us all (Genesis 2:22-23).

Following God’s example, all generations have practiced formerly giving out Brides. It was a fixed pattern already even before the Flood of Noah:

“For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, MARRYING AND GIVING IN MARRIAGE, until the day that Noah entered into the ark” (Matthew 24: 38). According to the verse above, men go out to marry and the BRIDES ARE GIVEN OUT TO THEM IN MARRIAGE. There’s no room for seeing someone’s Daughter, impregnating her, moving her into your house and living with her in increased and accelerated sexual immorality. It’s not only wrong but has very grave spiritual implications. Basically, each and everytime you sleep with each you’re committing fornication. Very sadly many are in Churches and some are even Pastors but yet living in Sin with someone’s Daughter from year to year.

Some may say, “But the parents

are not disturbing me.” Sir, it’s not a matter of the parents not disturbing you. How will they disturb you when they know that as at now, they’ve lost? If they withdraw their daughter from you, you’ll go and marry another girl. So they play safe and leave her with you hoping that one day you’ll come and honour them by giving them their dues as parents.

Do you know that, when Abraham’s Servant met the father of Rebecca, they gave him the girl for free to take her to Isaac? But the Servant of Abraham knew that it wouldn’t be right for him to “take her” without paying a dowry, even though they didn’t ask for it. So what did he do? He used his initiative and paid her dowry. Please read: 

“50 Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceedeth from the Lord: we cannot speak unto thee bad or good.

51 Behold, Rebekah is before thee, take her, and go, and let her be thy master’s son’s wife, as the Lord hath spoken.

52 And it came to pass, that, when Abraham’s servant heard their words, he worshipped the Lord, bowing himself to the earth.

53 AND THE SERVANT BROUGHT FORTH JEWELS OF SILVER, AND JEWELS OF GOLD, AND RAIMENT, AND GAVE THEM TO REBEKAH: HE GAVE ALSO TO HER BROTHER AND TO HER MOTHER PRECIOUS THINGS.” (Genesis 

 24: 50-53)

You needn’t wait to have a huge and flamboyant traditional marriage. Go for a modest occasion. The important thing is that you fully meet the requirements of her family and they release their daughter to you officially.

Don’t let the matter of living in an illegitimate and fake Marriage lead you to hell fire. Be a man and do the needful. You have procrastinated on this matter for too long. IT’S TIME ARISE AND DO THE RIGHT THING.
