SOME YEARS AGO, WHILE ON THE INTERNET, I STUMBLED ON A VIDEO of an American television game show titled “The Moment of Truth”. It’s a show in which the main Guest is hooked to a Lie Detector device and asked questions to win as much as half a million dollars, if they would truthfully answer the questions.
In this particular episode, the husband and Mother In-law of the Lady that was being questioned were present.
As I watched the rather strange show, I personally found some of the questions rather too pointed and embarrassing and their answers made the husband and his mother obviously uneasy in their respective seats.
Then came one of the toughest questions for the young married woman. She was asked if she had ever had Sex with a friend of her husband on her matrimonial bed in her husband’s absence. And her answer came as “YES”! Soon after that, she couldn’t control her emotions. She stood up to leave the show. Well, she had won 200 thousand dollars. However, her marriage fell apart after that show and her husband later remarried and had kids with his new wife. She made big money but lost her marriage, her home, her honour, her good name, her reputation and possibly the chance of ever remarrying. If she had children, her disgrace would very probably haunt them for a long time. As for the lady, her conscience would most certainly be her worst enemy as it would chastise her each time she remembers what she’s done to herself, her former husband and even her parents by undressing shamelessly for her husband’s friend to sleep with her on her matrimonial bed.
On the day she decided to sleep with that man, she never imagined that a national tv show with a huge financial offer would attract her interest and that she would there spill out her most kept secrets. This is an instance of the fact that you can’t commit Adultery and successfully keep it concealed. Hear what the Bible says:
“27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?
29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.
33 A WOUND AND DISHONOUR SHALL HE GET; AND HIS REPROACH SHALL NOT BE WIPED AWAY.” (Proverbs 6: 27-29, 33)
The portion of scripture above tells us exactly what Adultery is. IT’S EMBRACING BURNING FLAMES OF FIRE WHILE YOU’RE FULLY DRESSED. You’ll most certainly get burnt. Your dress will make it easier for the flames. Once you’re burnt, everyone will know the story behind your disfigurement!
It further says that committing Adultery is like walking barefoot on coals of fire. You feet will be burnt and again people will know that you committed adultery.
When the woman who was caught red-handed in the act of Adultery in John 8 set out to sin with her accomplice all that mattered to her was how she would “enjoy it”. She didn’t imagine the possibility of getting caught but that’s exactly what happened. The intervention of Christ only saved her from physical death, but not from “social death” as she must have become an object of scorn, ridicule and public hatred the rest of her life. Of course, her husband must have divorced her. But how about the prospect of finding a new marriage Partner? That’s very bleak indeed. Who would take the risk of marrying a publicly disgraced Adulteress?
Sir/Ma, don’t let anyone fool you to believe that Adultery is CHEATING. It’s far worse than mere cheating. It’s a heinous and abominable sin that carries THE DEATH PENALTY:
“If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, THEN THEY SHALL BOTH OF THEM DIE, BOTH THE MAN THAT LAY WITH THE WOMAN, AND THE WOMAN: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.” (Deuteronomy 22:22)
Leviticus 20:10 equally pronounces the death sentence as the punishment for Adulterers and Adulteresses.
Even though that sentence is not physically enforced in the New Testament era by the Church, yet the culprits or offenders die in other ways. Don’t be deceived to believe that death by public stoning is the only punishment for Adulterers and Adulteresses.
The devil is a liar and his advertisement of Adultery is an invitation to cruel death. Read:
“17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.” (Proverbs 9:17-18)
Most unfortunately, many believe the satanic advertisement in Proverbs 9:17 above and see Adultery as sweeter than intimacy with their Spouse. That’s as stupid as believing that water in your neighbours house quenches thirst better than the sparkling drinking water in your home!
The saying “Bread eaten in secret is pleasant” is an open lie. How could secrecy make anything taste better? Only fools would believe such an obvious lie. Sadly, there are enough fools with college degrees, church titles, national honour awards who believe it. Verse 18 tells us that those who have heeded that lie are already in the depths of Hell! So, my good friend, what you call CHEATING isn’t mere cheating. It carries the death sentence till this moment.
Over thirty years ago while at a Newspaper stand, I saw a man walking on foot who formerly had cars and was a highly placed officer in a tertiary institution. In those days when “he was in power”, he was chauffeured around in an official car. But on this particular day all of that belonged to the past as he couldn’t afford a car and now trekked.
As he got closer, the people around me began talking about him: “See this man. How are the mighty fallen! Is this not the man that was the Provost of this great institution? This man slept with many people’s wives! We never knew he would come to the point where he would be without even a Bicycle!” This man wasn’t physically stoned to death for sleeping with the wives of several men but the death sentence on Adultery still caught up with him in another way and he died economically and socially. He literally fell from grace to grass. For your information, he’s not alone. There are very many others like him. Some have died mentally becoming mad and roaming the streets naked.
Have you been committing Adultery and calling it CHEATING? Stop deceiving yourself. It’s an abominable Sin that still carries the death sentence. REPENT TODAY and genuinely believe on Jesus Christ so that your Sins would be forgiven and you will receive the gift of eternal life.
