MAN WAS CREATED FROM THE DUST OF the Earth(Genesis 2:7). In other words, Man was made from raw materials. But when God made the woman, He formed her from the BODY of the Man(Genesis 2:21-22). In other words, He made the Woman from a finished product. Now, can you see the difference? That’s why men have rugged bodies and thick skin while women have DELICATE BODIES that are so beautiful, so alluring and so magnetic to men. And because a woman has a uniquely attractive body that easily draws men, that’s why God’s Word speaks more to women on DRESSING than it does to men.
Some would say, “But why did God even create women like that? He shouldn’t have given them bodies that are so strikingly attractive!” Well, there’s a reason He did that. HE CREATED HER AS A GIFT FOR HER HUSBAND just as He promised in Genesis 2:18. And to fulfill the SUITABILITY “clause” of His promise, He had to construct her to fully be her husband’s match sexually by endowing her with strong sexual charms, appetite and allurement.
As a woman, and a married one at that, you need to understand that your body was made to be EXCLUSIVELY beautiful, attractive, alluring and desirable TO YOUR HUSBAND ONLY. It therefore becomes your responsibility to dress it as God’s Word commands so you don’t stir lust in other men.
In our anchor scripture passage, we see the conduct of Rebecca when she sighted Isaac and confirmed that he was her husband and Lord. She quickly alighted from the camel and covered herself with a veil before meeting him. What does this tell you? It tells you that a married woman must appear MARRIED. Her appearance should be such that she’s fully covered so that those parts of the female body that evoke desire in men are concealed.
A married woman must look sober, responsible, dignified and respectable. According to 1 Peter 3:2, a christian woman should lead a chaste lifestyle. A chaste lifestyle definitely includes chasteness in outward appearance. Chasteness in appearance implies dressing in attires that express no sexual tone or intentions whatsoever.
As a Christian housewife, you must be perceptive, sensitive and discerning about each of the places you’ll visit and know the appropriate manner to appear there.
(1) WHEN GOING TO THE RULER’S HOUSE
If you’re invited to the Presidential Villa or your State’s Government House or to the Palace of your Traditional Ruler, do you need to be instructed on the dressing code? No! Your common sense tells you, you ought to dress in your best clothes. You’ll visit the Hairdresser and get your hair beautifully made. You’ll wear a beautiful Hat or tie a costly Headtie. You don’t go there casually with an open head!
(2) WHEN GOING FOR A WEDDING
Again you prepare ahead on how to appear there. You get your hair beautifully done and you wear a Hat or tie a well knotted “Gele” or headgear.
You give attention to ensure that your looks doesn’t end up embarrassing you. Even in Scripture, one man was embarrassed for coming to a Wedding without proper dressing(Matthew 22:11-13)
(3) WHEN GOING TO THE HOUSE OF THE MOST HIGH GOD
If it’s important for a woman to be properly and appropriately dressed when going to the Presidential Villa, Government House, Traditional Ruler’s Palace or Weddings, how much more when she’s going to the House of God, which is A HOUSE OF PRAYER?(Matthew 21:13A)
In this one, there’s a clearly set down dressing code. A WOMAN MUST HAVE HER HAIR COVERED. Please, read:
“But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.”(1 Corinthians 11: 5-6)
In the Church which is the House of God and a House of Prayer, God demands that men come in with their heads UNCOVERED while women come in with their heads COVERED. God says that a woman preaching or praying with an uncovered head is equivalent to praying with a skin cut head. This is what the Owner of the Church says. There’s no room for argument.
In God’s characteristic gentleness, He asks us to consider the matter with our minds:
“Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?” (1 Corinthians 11:13)
The answer is simple: No, it’s not comely. It’s completely wrong.
We need to understand that proper dressing is important to God and that’s why He personally dressed the first couple after Sin rendered them naked.
What happened to the man in Matthew 22 who came to the King’s Son’s wedding without suitable dressing shows that there’s judgement for lack of proper dressing:
“And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”(Matthew 22:12-13)
(4) DON’T DO TRANSVESTISM OR CROSSDRESSING
“The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.” (Deuteronomy 22: 5)
God commands women not to wear men’s dresses and vice versa. Rebellion against God in dressing isn’t new but don’t join the rebels.
You’re by far more beautiful and more appealing when dressed in feminine attires than in men’s clothes.
(5) THE CHRISTIAN HOUSEWIFE’S GENERAL ADORNMENT
In closing, we’ll look at God’s general code of dressing for His daughters:
“9 Likewise, I want women to ADORN THEMSELVES MODESTLY AND APPROPRIATELY AND DISCREETLY in proper clothing, NOT WITH [ELABORATELY] BRAIDED HAIR and gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10 but instead ADORNED BY GOOD DEEDS [HELPING OTHERS], as is proper for women who profess to worship God”(1 Timothy 2: 9-10; AMP)
The instructions above are simple: Firstly, Dress modestly instead of wearing expensive clothes. Secondly, let your hairdressing not be elaborate or complicated and thirdly, be engaged in good works which is also an adornment!
