VERY MANY YEARS AGO , WE HAD A MARRIAGE SEMINAR in a certain Church. On the front pew of the middle row sat two wizened and wrinkle faced oldwives who looked like they had come straight to the program from their farms.
By the time we began teaching, I observed that they were making faces and looking at each other from time to time. In all likelihood, they were women who had long ceased to see the honour, beauty and worth of the marriage institution. And that’s a very pathetic mindset to have.
Our anchor scripture shows that even though Abraham and Sarah were already old and advanced in age, Abraham continually saw nothing but beauty in his wife. Sarah on her part didn’t see herself as a tired old hag that should stop looking sweet.
They were already in the Grandfather and Grandmother age bracket but they kept the fire of their love and marriage burning high!
One of the blessings of your Marriage is that you’ll have children and they’ll with time also marry and become parents. Their beautiful status as parents positively uplifts you and makes you a Grandfather or a Grandmother. But that’s as far as it goes.
Between you and your Spouse, however, love must never grow old.
Becoming a Grandfather or a Grandmother isn’t a call to be less inviting and less attractive to your Marriage Partner.
Wives, when you have become a Grandmother, emulate Mama Sarah who kept herself and looked sweet for her husband all the time despite the daunting challenge of childlessness.
In Marriage, only one thing is permitted to bring your union to an end and it’s Death. Before then, you must never devalue or despise your relationship. It’s your duty to keep your covenant love relationship with your Spouse alive, active and increasingly passionate until Death comes and separates you.
