In the past twenty to thirty years, one of the sayings that have found their way to popularity in christian circles is “Marriage is to be enjoyed and not to be endured.”
As widespread as this saying has become, the truth and awareness it has brought has neither bettered the practice of marriage nor effected a decline in the incidence of divorce, even among the church people who eagerly mouth it.
Why?
Because merely knowing a truth without giving it a faithful and enthusiastic obedience and adherence means nothing.
In comparison, “Christmas is to be enjoyed and not to be endured” is far more successful; even though it’s not being taught or verbally expressed by any one. It’s a saying people believe in their hearts and go to amazing extents to actualize. The result is that, while marriages are suffering setbacks and many of them are ailing, Christmas celebrations are getting bigger each year with the global spending on the annual celebration running into several billions of dollars.

Churches don’t preach Christmas. They don’t tell members how to prepare for it; what to buy and how to save towards having a big celebration. The simple truth is: people believe in Christmas and they desire to enjoy it. They therefore prepare ahead for it, make savings, shop early and go to all possible extents to actualize their desire to have a memorable feast and it is so.

To make marriage enjoyable instead of endurable as is the experience of most couples, there’s a need to do the following:
ππ₯ππππΉ
(1) BELIEVE IN MARRIAGE
There are Christians who don’t believe in Christmas. They see December 25 as an ordinary day. That’s okay, because Christmas is not recorded or commanded in Scripture.
But there are many who believe that it’s non inclusion in the Bible notwithstanding, it’s worth it remembering and celebrating the Lord’s birth. That belief drives the spending, the investing and the extensive preparations; even though the event lasts for just 24 hours.
To have an enjoyable and not an endurable marriage, therefore, you must have a new mindset that believes in marriage.
If you believe in marriage, you’ll hate hurting your spouse, you’ll be committed to your marriage vows, you’ll be deliberate in recreating the honeymoon spirit; you’ll be contented with your partner, you’ll cherish everything about the marriage institution.

(2) MAKE EFFORTS TO MAKE YOUR MARRIAGE PRACTICALLY HONOURABLE
Our anchor scripture tells us that Marriage is honourable. If you indeed believe it, then you’ll deliberately walk the path of honour in all your dealings with your Spouse.
Honourable men don’t lie, do they? They don’t shout at their Spouse, threaten, abuse or behave like touts and garage boys. Do they? Of course, they don’t.
If you believe in the honour of marriage, then you’ll not keep a side-chick or a side-cockrel; which you can’t do openly because you know deep inside you that they’re not honourable but disgraceful, nasty, detestable and shameful.

(3) INVEST EXTENSIVELY IN YOUR MARRIAGE RIGHT AWAY
Spend on things that will deepen your love for each other.
Buy good christian books on Marriage and read them to broaden your knowledge base on marriage.
Invest time in reading Lovebirds’ Devotional together daily. If you’re too busy during the day, read together in the night.
Madam is a good cook no doubt, yet it’s good to once in a while get to some fun place like a clean and colourful Eatery and eat out together.
There’s actually no end to the things you can do to re-engineer your marriage and make it a purely enjoyable love affair and not a dull, monotonous and tiring relationship where you’re silently sighing, emotionally bleeding and slowly dying from frustrations.
Act on all you’ve read from this Devotional piece
and you’ll be surprised at the transformation that God will grant you.πΉ
