No one goes into Marriage desirous of a dull, monotonous and lackluster relationship that’s soon on the downward slope that leads to Divorce.
Most of the time, divorces have happened because couples were ignorant of the fact that God is a major Stakeholder in their union and that He’s keenly interested in helping them with their marital troubles, if they would call upon Him.
Our anchor scripture for today presents a man whose life was trailed by sorrow and pain but would not allow his situations and experiences to define him. He wanted his life to be far more than what his troubles said he was!
His name, Jabez, means Pain or Sorrow. Through childhood, adolescence and young adulthood, the meanings of his name doggedly followed him and became his life’s persistent emblems; as he was bedeviled will bitter experiences.
What eventually led to his change of story would surprise you. And what was it?
Did he run into some benevolent destiny helper? No! Did he Fast for a hundred days? No! What’s the secret of his glorious transformation?
It was a short and distressed prayer of Faith made with the whole heart to the Lord God of Israel!
As a result, Jabez became the most prosperous and the most eminent person in his family! And it didn’t stop there. He went on to build a City(2 Chronicles 2:55). It’s comparable to singlehandedly building a great University in our day! His’ was a true story of an obscure “Mr. Zero” becoming a great Hero!
Is your marriage filled with sorrow and pains today and you’ve been contemplating divorce? Please, don’t give up.
Jabez also had the option called “Despair”. He also saw the ones called “What’s the use trying?” and “Murmur against God!”. But he refused to choose any of them. He instead opted to pray to the God Who created him. So also should you choose to call upon God Who joined you and your Spouse in Marriage; and He will step into your marital situation and transform it and make it a Mighty City of Love!
Remember when the Israelites came to Marah after three days of scorching thirst and found water only to discover that it was undrinkable because it was bitter? While the people murmured, Moses chose to pray and ask God to change the taste of the water and God showed him what to do for the water’s taste to change. Moses did just that and the water became sweet!
So, don’t give up on your marriage and Spouse!
Pray to God Almighty Who joined you in Marriage and He will visit your union and make it A Mighty City of Love.
