SPOUSES AND THE TROUBLES OF LIFE

Scripture:
‘SAVE ME, O GOD; FOR THE WATERS ARE COME IN UNTO MY SOUL. I SINK IN DEEP MIRE, WHERE THERE IS NO STANDING: I AM COME INTO DEEP WATERS, WHERE THE FLOODS OVERFLOW ME. I AM WEARY OF MY CRYING: MINE EYES FAIL WHILE I WAIT FOR MY GOD.’
(PSALMS 69:1-3)

All throughout courtship, the time of preparations for marriage and even after getting married, Spouses never for once think of the possibility of experiencing any form of trouble, disruption, distress or tribulation.

Is this a wrong thinking pattern? No! This is because, by nature, we are inclined to believe for the best of life and not it’s worst!

This is even more so when we are redeemed and have the abundant assurances of Scripture that God is infinitely good, loves us; and that He is our Shepherd and we shall not want.

But the blunt truth is that God hasn’t any where in His Word promised us: “skies always blue, flower strewn pathways, all our lives through”. It’s rather we who do not accept to embrace ALL of God’s Word and anticipate the troubles it has given abundant
hints about.

For instance, God’s promises about deliverance from troubles are clear forewarnings that we should anticipate troubles. And sometimes, the troubles are so tough and life-threatening that our very faith is heavily shaken.

Our anchor scriptures show us David in one of tough times of his life.

Was David a child of God? Yes! Did he love God? Of Course he did. Infact, he was a man after God’s heart? Yet look how God watched him suffer in our anchor passage!

But the good news is this: David’s story didn’t end in the sufferings we see in our anchor verses. God raised him up and very highly. The troubles he faced were simply God’s divine instruments for forging him into the kind of man God wanted him to be.

Are you and your spouse going through tough times right now? Please, don’t give up! Don’t be discauraged. Know this assuredly: the troubles your’e going through will not finish you!

As you anchor your faith in God Almighty, you will triumph gallantly and will be ushered into a new and glorious phase of life.
