You can’t make a full success of your marriage without being sold out to loving your Spouse.
The Lord Jesus Christ and His Church are our model for successful Love life and Marriage.
Now, the Church is completely sold out to loving Christ. This is one of her most powerful success secrets.
And just as we can see in our anchor scripture for today, she learnt that secret from Christ. Because Christ is completely sold out to loving the Church which is why He could lay down His life for the Church, even when the Church was still in the filthiness of her sins and trespasses!
Sir/Ma, you can’t walk by half measures and succeed in marriage.
FOR HUSBANDS
What does all these mean for a husband? It means he must see his task and role of loving his wife differently from before.
He must walk in the footsteps of Christ Who loved the Church when the Church lacked the capacity to appreciate or be thankful for His love.
It means that as a husband, loving your wife will no longer be determined by her performance or living up to your expectations as wife but by your dedication, resolve and committment to obey Christ Who has commanded you to love her at the cost of your life; just as He did and still does the Church!
It means loving your wife zealously, willingly and happily even when you’re facing the toughest of times, just as Christ could find time to wash His disciples feet when the agony of crucifixion was just some hours away.
WIVES
And what does emulating the Church imply for the wife? It implies willingly, zealously and happily submitting to her husband in all things just as the Church does to Christ.
It also means walking in the footsteps of Mama Sarah by deeply reverencing her husband and calling him, “My Lord” just as Mama Sarah did Father Abraham. And why not? After all, all Christian women are Daughters to Mama Sarah! If she reverenced her husband profoundly and without fear, so should you.
The undoing of very many couples over the years is the refusal to practice they’re respective roles in Marriage IN FULL SCALE as God demands. Instead, they love each other based on performance. Meaning, for instance, if Husband didn’t love her enough to join her in doing the dishes as she requested, he would not be allowed to have sexual intimacy with her until her hot anger is over. But this isn’t what it should be.
Today, choose to be head-over-the-heels in love with your Spouse again. As you do and practically love your Mate, not depending on their merits, your marriage will become a sweet colony of Heaven on Earth. Loving each other will become an amazingly thrilling “hobby” you’d both be addicted to!!
