Enriching Matrimonies

RELATE AS LOVERS, NOT AS TORMENTORS

Scripture:
‘AND BE YE KIND ONE TO ANOTHER, TENDERHEARTED, FORGIVING ONE ANOTHER, EVEN AS GOD FOR CHRIST’S SAKE HATH FORGIVEN YOU.’
(EPHESIANS 4: 32)

Long ago, I heard of a couple whose marriage was marred by one ugly and dark patch. That dark patch was the hardheartedness of the wife.

The husband was a struggling man who ekked a living from mending shoes in the small village where they lived. But each time he made the mistake of offending his wife, she would be so highly angry that nothing he said or did would turn off her fury. The only thing she would accept was a brand-new clothe purchased from the local cloth merchant. As one would expect, this was something difficult for the poor cobbler to provide. But for peace to reign, he would do everything in his power to buy her a new cloth of about six yards to appease her.

Spouses, in this beautiful new year, 2026, you and your spouse need to purpose to relate as Lovers and not as tormentors the devil would use to afflict each other.

Marriage has made you divinely licenced lovers who are recognised and authorized by God to freely practice all forms of love.

However, beyond the licence to practice, you need to each have a lover’s heart or else you’ll become instruments of torments to each other like the wife of the cobbler in the true life account above.

Our anchor scripture shows us some of the qualities that should be found in the hearts of true Lovers. They are: KINDNESS, TENDERNESS OF HEART and A QUICK DISPOSITION TO FORGIVE. These qualities are in Christ and that’s why He forgave us unconditionally the instant we believed in Him.

This year you and your spouse should sit down to discuss. Life is short. Your marriage is timed. Choose to be God’s instrument of Love through which His blessings and goodness are poured into your Mate’s life everyday.

Purpose to always walk in kindness towards each other. Kindness is a lifestyle of being gentle, friendly, generous and considerate of others.

In this new year, throw away the stony heart. Choose maturity and reject childishness. It’s only a child who would not expect to be offended.

You ought to know by now that there’s no perfect man or woman on earth and that a typical example is yourself!

It’s a new year. Live lives of kindness and tenderheartedness. And be quick to forgive one another’s mistakes and errors.

As you do, you’ll have a Marriage that’s indeed a sweet colony of Heaven on Earth.
