In yesterday’s Devotional teaching, we saw that Marriage isn’t for the lilly-livered. And the reason is that in marriage you’ll encounter hundreds of challenges. You must therefore be mature minded and strong in heart.
Today, we’re looking at couple from Ur of the Chaldees: Abram and Sarai.
As would be expected, they must have married early. Very likely, when they were in their twenties.
But at the age of 75 and 65 respectively, Abram and Sarai, had no child. And to compound their challenge was the fact that they were idol worshippers and lived in the midst of ungodly people who had zero tolerance for such couples. So you can only imagine what Abram and his wife, Sarai, must have silently put up with for many years.
Then God appeared to Abram and called him to leave his kindred and country for a land He would show him. Abram willingly obeyed.
But several years after becoming a godly couple, the challenge of childlessness still continued. It was in this circumstance that Abram uttered the words of our anchor scripture for today. Painful words that showed that his plight of childlessness was deeply affecting him.
That night, God took did something special to assure him. Please, read:
“And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.”(Genesis 15:5)
By the divine words in the verse above, God assured Abram that his children would be as uncountable as the stars of heaven.
Later God changed Abram’s name to Abraham and Sarai’s to Sarah.
And then He went on to fulfill His promise to Abraham and Sarah. Today, Abraham’s spiritual children are countless and so also are his natural children. Nations have literally come out of him just as God promised him.
Sir/Ma, what’s that heartbreaking challenge that is standing like a mountain before you and your spouse? Hear this: God can make it a plain before you and your spouse as you cling to Him in persistent Faith.
Please, don’t give up!
And don’t be angry with God. Don’t murmur either.
Cleave to Him in Faith and He will turn your night to day and your mourning into dancing.
Again I say, Don’t give up.
Cleave to God in Faith and Prayer and
your miracle will surely come!
❤️💕 TONIGHT’S ASSIGNMENT IN THE BEDROOM
Reread the devotional piece just before bedtime and soberly discuss it.
📚📖QUOTES: “It’s undignifying for a housewife to be moaning so loud to the hearing of her children, house helps, neighbours and even her father-in-law who is on a visit!
Now, does it mean you must completely subdue your natural responses? No, No, No! But you certainly can control them…Go ahead and express yourself but when at home with the children all around, do so in hushed whispers that only your spouse can hear.” (Anselm Ahman. From Lovebirds’ Devotional of April 17, 2024)
