🤓🤠👄👅Today, by God’s grace, we are continuing our new teaching series titled “The Use of the Tongue in Marriage.”
🤓🤠👄👅(3) CONSIDER YOUR SPOUSE BEFORE YOU SPEAK
In our anchor scripture for today, Jesus disclosed to His disciples that there were things He had in mind to tell them which He, however, would not tell them for the singular reason that they lacked the capacity to bear them. Perhaps, they would be too overwhelmed and brokenhearted if He told them. And so, He refrained from telling them those things, no matter how dear they might have been to Him. The instant lesson here is that He was considerate and thoughtful of His disciples.
🗣️Similarly, when a matter is boiling in your heart that you want to share with your partner, pause for a while and take time to pray over it. Consider the matter as well as the person you want to talk to. Weigh both sides carefully.
👂Might what you want to say be too weighty for your spouse to bear? Could it be that your partner is presently so emotionally fragile and drained that what you want to say might crush their already weakened spirit, leading to negative fallout or even a breakdown in your marriage?
🤎Or could it be that what you want to say is better left for God to handle, since you have no evidence to prove it?
🐢Before you speak to your mate about any burning issues that trouble your heart, don’t think only of yourself. Think of your spouse, too, for the Bible says:
📖“We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves” (Romans 15:1).
🐯Even when there are issues for which you have clear proof and evidence, sometimes you will still need to take time to pray. As you do, you might sense the need to delay taking action until later.
🤎A good example of this is Abigail’s response to the dangerous display of folly by her husband, Nabal (1 Samuel 25), who rained abuses on David, despite David’s kindness to his shepherds.
🥚Abigail could have confronted Nabal but did not because she knew that his response would be wild and that it would further worsen the family’s situation. She waited until early the next morning before speaking to him, and he listened. Just ten days later, God did what Abigail could never have done: He took Nabal’s life!
🤓So, don’t rush to say what is boiling in your heart. That is why the Bible tells us to be swift to hear but SLOW TO SPEAK.
🤠When you are slow to speak, your mind has enough time to pray, examine the issue soberly, and arrive at a right decision that God approves.
🤓🤠👄👅(5) MUST YOU ANSWER?
Another thing to consider when your heart is boiling over an issue is this: Must you necessarily answer?
👅This point applies to a situation in which the devil has succeeded in luring your partner into quarrelling with you. You must decide not to give the devil the opportunity he seeks to cause a loud verbal exchange in your home and bring your Christian testimony into disrepute.
👄The Bible says of Christ:
📖“Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously” (1 Peter 2:23).
🗣️Follow His example when your mate chooses to insult you.
👂The Bible further tells us:
📖“Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing” (1 Peter 3:9).
🤓So, always remember that your tongue is not for quarrelling, no matter the provocation.
🤓🤠👄👅CONCLUSION
From what we have learned today, it is obvious that it is possible for you to use your tongue holily, righteously, and piously in marriage. It is possible to refrain from speaking evil with your tongue as you heed the instruction to be SLOW TO SPEAK.
🐢We must always be mindful of the words of the Lord Jesus concerning the coming judgment and its focus on the words we speak in this present life:
📖“36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
📖37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned” (Matthew 12:36–37).
👄 God bless you! 🤓🤠

“Learn to rejoice and be thankful when the kitchen store is empty, knowing that after sometime, God will send His “Macedonian Angels” to supply all your needs according to His riches in glory.
And when the home overflows with all manner of wealth and riches, never give room to pride and haughtiness but see it as a divine opportunity to serve God by being a channel of His blessings to the outcasts, the destitutes and the downtrodden who are around you.”(From Lovebirds’ Devotional, Nov. ,6 2024)”
