AT THE END OF A 3-DAY MARRIAGE SEMINAR in a certain Church, I sat with the Senior Pastor in his office. As we conversed, he said something that I’ve never forgotten and it’s this: “The church is full of impotent men!” It’s not my manner to instantly probe into such personal expressions by asking, “Sir, is this an assessment of your congregation or the Church at large?” Besides, he was completely new to me and it would have been improper for me to demand a digression. For me, however, it was a useful hint on the hidden challenges in many marriage bedrooms. After all, this man who has pastored for decades and listened to many wives pour out their secret bedroom woes to him definitely couldn’t be lying.
Beloved Christian Spouses, pleasant listen. The Abundant Life God has given you in Christ Jesus is inclusive of a robust, strong and vibrant sex life in Marriage! Sex is a gift given you by God to support and protect your spiritual life. It isn’t carnality or worldliness as many ignorantly assume.
Our entire lives including our sex lives must be based on Faith for it’s written:”THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.”(Rom.1:17).This implies living every aspect of our lives, including our bedroom lives, by the dictates of the Word of God and not according to what you see or feel.
God’s Word powerfully declares that you are the image and likeness of the Omnipotent God (Gen.1:26-27) and that you are fearfully and wonderfully made!(P139:14); that your Body is the temple of The Omnipotent God and that He lives and walks inside of you (2 Cor. 6:16)! These are your realities as a redeemed child of God. With the OMNIPOTENT GOD living inside of YOU, you’re not just POTENT but SUPER-POTENT sexually! Plus, you’re a new creature (2 Cor.5:17) and a partaker of the divine nature(2 Pet.1:4)! Your sexual virility isn’t something that’s fleeting but permanent and superlative. It’s your right and duty to assert yourself in these truths.
Our anchor scriptures make it clear that as Believer, you’re of a different stock from sinners. God in the first verse of our anchor scriptures declares that you are comparable to two trees: the Date Palm(Phoenix Dacty-lifera) and the Cedar of Lebanon. These two trees are both evergreen. The Date Palm’s fruits grow sweeter with age: the older it grows the sweeter and richer the taste of it’s fruits! What does this imply in your sex life? It’s saying that your sex life would be sweeter and richer as you grow older.
You’re also comparable to the Cedar tree in growth pattern. The Cedar tree grows with an emphasis on downward penetration than outward growth above the ground. When it stands at it’s majestic height of 120 feet above the ground, the roots are 360 feet deep in the Earth! It emphasizes intimacy with the earth above fanciful, visible and showy appearances above the ground. The outcome? It’s this: when the rage of storms, hurricanes and fiery tornadoes come calling and other trees and shrubs fall, the cedar isn’t shaken, let alone moved!
Like the Cedar, you and your spouse should make sexual intimacy(secret growth)an emphasis in your union. Sexual intimacy isn’t carnality as the devil would have you believe. For your marriage, it’s very staff of life. Disbelieve the last sentence at your own peril. But if you’ve seen lives wasted and cutdown in their prime because of sexual negligence in marriage, you’ll prioritize sexual intercourse in your marriage as you should.
