Today we’re looking at the letter “I” in the beautiful name we’ve been using. The letter “I”
in that name stands for:
INCREASE AND INTENSIFY YOUR LOVE FOR EACH OTHER!
Marriage was instituted by the God whom INCREASE is a basic tenet of His kingdom. Of Christ His Son it is written that: Of the Increase of His kingdom there shall be no end! God doesn’t operate on the principle of “Decrease” but on the power of Increase.
In John chapter 15, Jesus set forth one of principles of the Father for growing His Vineyard, which is the Body of Christ: He prunes the fruitful branches so they’d bring forth MORE FRUIT! He’s interested in MORE FRUITFULNESS and not the opposite. This is similar to Paul’s staunch belief encapsulated in our anchor scripture for today. Paul would not be contented with his achievements and victories of the past. No. He would rather forget them and press forward to accomplish all that were still waiting for him to do in the future!
In our love lives as Lovebirds and Spouses, these powerful kingdom principles must be zealously applied. Like Apostle Paul, we must not be satisfied that we have a marriage that has survived storms and tornadoes and still standing strong after over twenty , thirty, fifty or sixty years. No! We must shove our successes of the past behind us and press on into the glorious and awesome FUTURE that God has for our respective marriages.
I believe that what Christ set out to do after the last supper caught his disciples completely unprepared. For three and half years they’d known nothing pure and absolute Love and humility from him. He was the servant who served them at every meal instead of sitting down to be waited upon as it should be. But on this night after they had eaten, he filled a basin with water, brought it where they sat and went down on his knees to WASH THEIR FEET. I assume they were all dumbfounded. Only one person could find his voice to object. Peter probably felt it was too overwhelming: how could the Son of God wash his feet? On Jesus part it was only natural for Him to express His Love to His Beloved in a more profound way, before He’d face the dreadful agony of crucifixion. He showed them Love on a higher scale just before He bade goodbye to life on the earth. This is an example for all covenant lovers to follow. Don’t love less, always love more. Don’t give your Body to your spouse less than you did in the past, grumbling that all the love you have shown in the past have not brought you any rewards. Beloved, you need to know that Love and Romance are not things you do for profits. They are outpourings of your life into that of your mate in fulfillment of your obligations to them as their spouse. And your continuing to do those things should not be determined by whether you have gained from them or not.
Increase and intensify your love for your mate. Keep doing it and your marriage will get SWEETER with every passing year.
