In our anchor scripture passage for today, Job declared that if he had committed adultery with another man’s wife, then let other men sleep with his own wife as his punishment.
He is long gone to be with the Lord but we can learn from what this passage reveals about the bedroom life of the marriages of the Ancients who lived thousands of years before us. Our lessons are specifically from verse 10.
In that verse, we see two approaches to sexual intimacy in marriage that are worth our attention. The two methods are “Grinding” by wives and “bowing down” by husbands. Mind you, these are two completely different love-postures; and they’re different from the ones in the Song of Solomon.
1) GRINDING IN THE BEDROOM
If you have seen women grinding on the grinding stone, then it’s easy for you to understand this approach to sexual intimacy in marriage.
In grinding on the grinding stone, a woman holds the smaller grindstone and uses it to grind the substance on the bigger stone.
In this exercise, her arms and hands are the main “workers”. However, during love grinding in the bedroom, the pattern is a bit different. The wife doesn’t “grind’ with her hands but with her “four-lipped feminine mouth” and her hip, thighs and waist all cooperate in the the work.
As she grinds “the body” of her husband, he must be disciplined and in full command of “his body” so that he lasts for as long as she desires. He shouldn’t let her start grinding and then in two or three minutes, he is unable to continue. No.
The procedure is: she mounts her husband at the appropriate time, inserts his erect manhood into her womanhood and grinds. She can use this love-posture facing him or backing him. Both are good. Backing him gives her husband the advantage of seeing her buttocks swaying or swinging rhythmically and beautifully. This sight heightens the excitement of her husband and boosts his appreciation of her feminity.
Again if you have been to the village and seen women grinding at the stone mills, you’ll observe that they do it with energy. They do it seriously. They do it and sweat; particularly, if what they have to grind is a basin full. You don’t see a woman grinding and she’s conscious of her beauty. No! Neither do you see a woman at the grinding mill doing what Nigerians refer to as “Shakara”, which means pretence.(Remember, Shakara is different from Yanga)
So in the bedroom, a wife “grinds her husband” with strength, energy and seriousness; seeking to give her man maximum pleasure and gaining as much delight for herself too.
2) HUSBAND BOWING DOWN OVER WIFE
This second love-posture in verse 10 of our anchor scripture is well known today. It’s “the missionary method”.
The lesson we’ll pick from the verse is the proper way the ancients did it.
Note that the verse says,”bow down upon her” and not “lie down upon her”. No wife can endure being laid upon. It’s crushing. Sadly, this is exactly what some husbands ignorantly do.
“Bow down upon her” implies not putting your weight on your wife but supporting yourself on elbows and knees. In this way, your weight is not on your dear wife and there’ll be space between your bodies. This way, she doesn’t carry the burden of your weight.
3) SWEEPING HER HUSBAND OFF HIS FEET
The grinding method is one the wife’s means of sweeping her husband off his feet sexually in fulfillment of Proverbs 5:19b.
