AT A VERY CRITICAL time in his love life when he badly needed counsel and direction over the strange development he was experiencing,
instead of taking time to thoroughly pray and get counsel from God like his father, King David, Ammon listened to Jonadab, a subtle fellow who adviced him to rape his sister. The consequence was his death by brutal and gruesome murder.
Spouses, there definitely will come times and moments when you will need some guidance as to what to do in some aspect of your marriage. At such a time, be highly careful what step to take. Be very careful who you open up to and seek advise from. Better to be silent and keep the issue to yourself than spill it out to the wrong person.
Our anchor offers a red flag: NEVER seek the counsel of the ungodly!!!
At your moment of confusion, don’t go near the ungodly for advice. They may be friends, neighbours, old school mates, etc.
If they’re not God-fearing, saintly and truly spiritual and matured in the way of the Lord, keep away!
The mistake of Amnon was that he confided his confusion to a godless fellow who was his relative. But instead of telling Amnon that his desire to sleep with his half sister was evil, he boldly advised him on how to get that evil desire actualized.
When confused in one aspect of your marriage or another and don’t know what to do, please get on your knees and pray.
That’s what King David did when he found himself messed up because of his Adultery with Uriah’s wife. He ran to God in tears and sought mercy. He found mercy. If not for God’s mercy, he should have been stoned to death publicly.
Hebrews 4: 16 lovingly tells us:
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
At the throne of Grace, there’s counsel and direction. Get there first before going anywhere else and you will receive help and guidance.
