LOVEBIRDS' DEVOTIONAL

Enriching Matrimonies

AS YOU PREPARE FOR CHRISTMAS, PLEASE HEAR THIS.

Scripture:
‘AND SHE SHALL BRING FORTH A SON, AND THOU SHALT CALL HIS NAME JESUS: FOR HE SHALL SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS.’
(MATTHEW 1: 21)

DECEMBER IS A BEAUTIFUL MONTH. And it’s beautiful for many beautiful reasons. It’s the month of thousands of weddings that result in the birth of thousands of brand new marriages, families and homes. It’s a month of holidays as most civil servants prefer to have their annual leave in December. It’s also a month of spiritual retreats. It’s a month of thousands of different social events. Most significant of all the reasons is that it’s the month in which the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is marked and celebrated through out the world .

As we approach Christmas, it’s important that Spouses watch against getting entangled with anything that could make them carry new and unnecessary burdens into the new year.

Christmas is a only celebration and nothing more. It’s only on the 25th of December. It’s not longer than that. It’s no where commanded in Scripture, so there’s no reward for celebrating Christmas in grand style.

One of the things you need to watch during this period is your spending. Don’t allow the “Spirit of Christmas” get you carried away into spending more than you should.
Don’t get yourself into debts just because you want to be like or even surpass your next door neighbour in the celebration. As a person, I have seen many Christmases but have yet to see anyone given an Award of Distinction for celebrating Christmas so well. Infact, many will not even remember the dress you wore on that day just a few days after Christmas.

So, don’t let the sounds of Knockouts knock sense out of your mind to make you choose to be the Father Christmas of your community; because there’s a brand new year just some few days after the excitement and frenzy of Christmas and you have absolutely no idea what it’s gonna demand from you.

The purpose of Christmas is to commemorate the Birth of Christ. Ensure that you do just that and within your means. For no reason shop for things you can’t pay for immediately.

Finally, you can have a new approach to Christmas this year if you so choose. During most Christmas season, we think only of our loved ones and friends and plan how we could give them gifts or at least a good Christmas meal. But how about adding others to that list this year? How about giving obedience to this rarely preached words of our Lord Jesus Christ?

“But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:
And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.” (Luke 14:13-14)
You can make this year’s Christmas unique by not eating your sumptuous dishes with your family and friends alone but going out into the streets where the poor, destitutes and beggars are and giving them delicacies. God will be pleased with you and that’s the best immediate return for your celebration.
