Actors act or dramatise scripts that are written by fellow men; even when they do not believe a thing in the entire story. They act it enthusiastically for the money and go smiling to the Banks.
But in Christianity, it’s completely different.
Christians are called, not to “act” the Word of God but to first believe the Scriptures completely and then pour all of our hearts into living them out faithfully and joyfully. This isn’t only possible but easy because God’s commandments are not grievous.
This morning we are focusing on another aspect of the Scripture we dwelt on, on January 1st, 2026. And that’s Genesis 2:24 which is also our anchor Scripture for today.
On January 1st, we focused on LEAVING and CLEAVING. Today we’re looking at what happens after Spouses leave and cleave. What happens? They become ONE FLESH. This means that Marriage is a One Flesh relationship. It’s not a business even though the husband and wife may own businesses. It’s not an Office even though the spouses may be top beurocrats. It’s not a Choir either, even though the spouses may both be award winning recording artistes.
Marriage is a One Flesh Life!
Yes, it’s a real life and practical union of a red-blooded man who has a strong sex drive and a beautiful, red-blooded woman with a vigorous sexual appetite. That’s what marriage is. We just must not pretend about it!
Sure enough, you’ll pray, fast, go to church, give financially into God’s work, serve in your local church, do your business, be a good officer in the army, police force, etc. Yes, you must be good at all the other aspects of your life. But don’t let committment to those other areas make you forget your relationship with your spouse and the fact that it’s a One Flesh union.
The knowledge that Marriage is a One Flesh union tells you that you have the responsibility to feed it DAILY because every flesh needs to be fed daily. It’s ignorance of this that has led to the death of many Marriages. The Spouses see every other thing as important and needing practical attention but not their Marriage. This year, that has to stop!! So what are you to do? How do you feed your One Flesh union?
LOVE, SUBMISSION AND NOURISHMENT
You’re married to a person of the opposite sex. By the nature of your spouse, there are things they need. Recognise those needs and daily attend to them.
For husbands, recognise each of the things God tells you to do for your wife as, not just as commands, but vital needs in their life.
Loving your wife as Christ loves the Church(Ephesians 5:25-29) isn’t just something good to do, it’s something that your wife needs going by her nature as a woman. She needs that kind of deep, extravagant and extraordinary love. So go ahead and give her that quality of love in abundant quantity and you’ll see how fulfilled she’ll be.
And wives, God’s command to you to submit to the leadership and authority of your husband in the home isn’t just something good to do. It’s something your husband needs in the One Flesh relationship. Submit to him willingly and joyfully and see how harmonious your Marriage will be.
By your natures as a matured woman and a matured man respectively, you both need frequent supplies of sexual intercourse, romantic interactions, jolly companionship that generate laughter and smiles, etc, etc . These are things you must not joke with in this new year.
Thanks be to God for the position you presently occupy in your office, church, ministry, business or any other organisation. But please and please: as you work faithfully in these places, do not forget or marginalise your Marriage. As already said, this kind of negligence has been the undoing of very many Marriages.
In conclusion, remember that your Marriage is a One Flesh Life and needs to be fed ON DAILY BASIS. Therefore, feed your Marriage daily!!!
