YOU CAN LIVE A HAPPY MARRIED LIFE that’s completely immune to the epidemic of Adultery and it’s grim and horrendous consequences. But what’s the secret?
The secret is simple: AS A COUPLE, BE MADLY IN LOVE WITH EACH OTHER ROUND THE CLOCK!!
What does it mean to be madly in love? It means to love each other intensely, passionately and to an extreme degree! It means TO BE OBSESSED WITH EACH OTHER. It also implies having an overwhelming level of affection, devotion, adoration and adulation for one another. This is the kind of love we see between the Spouses in the Song of Solomon. Their love is so intense, so enormous and so profuse it overflowed in powerful love songs that have blessed millions in the past and will still impact many more in the future.
In our scripture passage, we see the lady suddenly become highly desirous of the presence of her Man in the night. Well, she could wait until the next day to see him, couldn’t she? No, she wasn’t willing for such. But is that “lady-like”? Is it not men that chase women, while women pretend not to like it and so play “hard-to-get”, even in marriages? Is that not the tradition? Well, this lady was madly in love with her Spouse and no traditional practice was going to stop her from being herself. She had long bade goodbye to tradition, culture, customs, superstitions, taboos, myths and all the obstructions that Satan has craftily set up to frustrate marriages and married couples. She briskly dressed up and stepped into the night to find her man who was not missing. Why? Because she was madly in love with him. Would such a woman spend a moment of her time thinking of another man, let alone allow him talk to her about extramarital affairs? NO! She’s obsessed with her man; she’s lost in his love. This is exactly the level of Love God wants every couple to operate on in their marriage. This is the kind of love Proverbs 5: 19 commands married couples to practice: they should be obsessed, swept off their feet and intoxicated with each other. Let’s see some translations of Proverbs 5: 19
“A loving deer, a graceful doe— LET HER BREASTS ALWAYS SATISFY YOU; BE LOST IN HER LOVE FOREVER.”(CSB)
“She is a lovely deer, a graceful doe. LET HER BREASTS INTOXICATE YOU ALL THE TIME; ALWAYS BE DRUNK ON HER LOVE.”(CEB)
From the two translations above, we can see first hand the very high degree of love God commands Spouses to have for each other in marriage and the limitless measure of romance and sexual love that should characterize marriages: ROMANTIC AND SEXUAL LOVE ROUND THE CLOCK!(BE LOST IN HER LOVE FOREVER!)
When you are on this altitude of Love, you’ll be completely out of reach to infidelity; you’ll be completely untraceable by the radars of the demons of Adultery. You’re in a completely different world.
This is the kind of Love Jesus speaks of in Matthew 6:24. It cannot serve two masters. It’s devotion, commitment and allegiance are to one Master.
When you read Ephesians 5:25-33, you’ll see that, even in the New Testament, God commands Spouses to walk in this kind of Love: extreme and supreme love that makes the wife voluntarily submit herself completely to her husband and makes the husband love his wife sacrificially even unto death. This is the kind of Love that made Jesus go to the Cross to lay down His life for us: Sinners who were cruel enemies to Him.
How do you start being madly in love with each other and intensifying it? It begins with a decision. Both of you come together and decide that you want to be madly in love with each other.
The next thing is to work on your decision every day just like athletes and sportsmen practice their sport EVERYDAY.
Everyday, practice living as lovey-dovey and madly-in-love Lovers. Give hearty obedience to each and everyone of God’s commandments on Marriage. As you’re consistent, persistent and persevering, your love will grow and greatly intensify until you and your marriage become an inspiration to other couples who are struggling with their marriages.
