LOVEBIRDS' DEVOTIONAL

Enriching Matrimonies

BECOMING GOD-LIKE LOVERS (PT. 2)

Scripture:
‘AND WALK IN LOVE, AS CHRIST ALSO HATH LOVED US, AND HATH GIVEN HIMSELF FOR US AN OFFERING AND A SACRIFICE TO GOD FOR A SWEET SMELLING SAVOUR.’
(EPHESIANS 5:2)

IN OUR LAST DEVOTIONAL teaching, we observed that:

“Why most Spouses stay on in the nursery class of Marriage till their old age is because they’re empty of the ambition to be more in marriage.”

They want to be more in their chosen field of profession, vocation, ministry or business. They’re concerned about increasing in their financial standing. They want to have a title or two more as evidence of upward mobility in the society. They want to grow in their hobby and win trophies in same. But they, somehow, don’t give thoughts to growing in their marriage which is their love life.

Instead, what many do is to go in the opposite direction: hurt their marriage and their marriage partner by going into infidelity, a vice and a sin so vile and so loathsome it stinks both before God and Man! But true love as we can see in our anchor scripture creates a glorious fragrance. That’s what God wants to see you desire and demonstrate in your marriage.

Sir/Ma, your Lovelife is one of the most beautiful parts of your entire being. It’s that part of you that gives so much meaning to your life and existence because it hosts your home and family life. From it “flows” your immediate offspring and your unborn posterity. After your relationship with God, the next most important is your relationship with your Spouse which is your Marriage.

Just as it is God’s will that you “grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ”(2 Peter 3:18), so is it God’s will that you grow in your Marriage and in the knowledge of your marriage partner; and that your love for each other wax stronger: become higher, sweeter, richer, fuller and more colourful with each passing day!

Our last devotional piece closed with this expression of hope:

“Thankfully, you can cultivate that ambition today.”

Yes, you can cultivate the ambition to become a God-like lover whose practice of love goes beyond kisses, embraces, cuddling, etc. You can become an imitator of God by embodying the essences of love: kindness, patience, compassion, mercy, etc.

It is said of Barnabas:
“For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith”(Acts 11:24). It didn’t just happen. He desired to be a vessel through which God’s goodness would flow and he became one.

It’s public knowledge that Solomon became a wise man. But wisdom didn’t fall on him from the blues. He desired it , hungered for it, sought it in prayer and he became the wisest king of all time.

I know a young man whose heart cry was to become a great Lover in his marriage and God recruited him to build a Romantic Love Army.

As we said in our last devotional piece: “Don’t be content with just being married. Make it your matrimonial ambition to be a Lover of note who leaves their footprints on the sands of time as you sojourn on the face of the earth. Yes, make it your aspiration, yearning and deep-seated passion to be a Great Lover who is an embodiment of Godlike Love and you’ll become one. This isn’t a theory. It’s reality.”
