CLEANLINESS: THE GLORIOUS GARMENTS OF MARRIED COUPLES

Scripture:
‘(1) And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. (2) Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.’
(GENESIS 2:10; 2:25)

EVERY MARRIAGE IS A REPLICATION OF THE FIRST UNION instituted by God long ago in the garden of Eden. Marriage is a naked man and a naked woman walking hand-in-hand despite the fact that they’re clothed. As soon as they’re in the marriage bedroom and in the “marriage mood” those beautiful clothes are laid aside, and it’s time to reenact their oneness. This is the closest human beings can get with each other and it becomes not just necessary but imperative that Spouses be clean at all times.

According to our anchor scripture, the rivers in Eden were for the garden to be watered. That’s absolutely true. But it’s also true that they were there to provide the original couple drinking water to quench their thirsts and water for bathing their bodies.

Growing up in police barracks, one of the things I enjoyed as a child was those rare times when police officers prepared for the Governor’s visit, Independence celebration or some other special occasions of importance. After several days of heated parade rehearsals, the “D-Day” finally comes and on that morning Officers would put on their ceremonial wears that are never worn on ordinary days. It was sheer delight to see every officer shining in they’re official ceremonial outfits.

Married Couples also have their own ceremonial regalia. However, these ceremonial wears are not
cotton, polyester or silken fabrics. The ceremonial and “high day” outfits of Spouses is their NAKEDNESS. And just as people wear their occasional or ceremonial dresses with pride and gaeity, so also should you be proud and confident when you’re naked with your Spouse. More importantly: just as occasional or ceremonial dresses are thoroughly dry-cleaned, look new and smell fresh, so also should your entire body be clean, fresh and free from unpleasant smells all day long. Be always conscious of the fact that your Spouse might love to pay a kiss visit to any part of your body any time. Therefore, be always squeaky clean.

Cleanliness in marriage goes beyond having thorough sponge bathes every morning. It includes the following as well.

1) OBSERVANCE OF GOOD ORAL HYGIENE.
Brush your teeth early in the morning. Dentists encourage people to brush twice daily. Couples need this advise more than anyone else. So, always ensure that your mouth is fresh and kissable.

2) LET YOUR FINGERS AND TOES BE WELL TRIMMED AT ALL TIMES. You don’t need a digression here, do you? Over grown finger and toe nails give you away as someone who is rural, careless and dirty. So, always have a nail cutter handy in your bedroom. And use it!

3) DEAL WITH BODY ODOUR.
Apart from taking a full and thorough sponge bathe everyday, invest in good and fragrant perfumes and hair oils. Use them freely. Your Spouse will enjoy coming closer and sniffing you!

Add other points that come to your mind.
