COUPLES, BE BATTLE-READY!! (PT. 1)

Scripture:
‘FINALLY, MY BRETHREN, BE STRONG IN THE LORD, AND IN THE POWER OF HIS MIGHT.’
(EPHESIANS 6:10)

WE LIVE IN A WORLD OF Warfare and Battles(Revelation 12:12b). The devil is fighting everyone, including Spouses. Infact, Spouses are one of his first targets as proven by his attack on the first couple in the Garden of Eden.

Why? It’s because just as we taught in the opening lines of Lovebirds’ Devotional for September 22, 2025, “The devil hates every kingdom structure on Earth of which marriage is the first.”

In view of this reality, Spouses don’t only need to be strong in their Marriage, they need to be strong spiritually and that’s where giving uttermost attention to our anchor scripture urgently comes in.

The need to be spiritually strong becomes more obvious when we understand that there will surely “the evil days”, whether we like it or not.

Our anchor scripture commands us to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Now, what does this imply?

Please, pay close attention!

It’s true that as Believers and Spouses, we have weapons of warfare(2 Corinthians 10:4-5). However, our anchor scripture commands us to be build up mighty strength in our spirit man just as the Wrestler builds up bodily strength.

And how does the Wrestler build up his extraordinary mighty strength that enables him lift his opponent off the ground and throw him down? ¹He feeds properly. ²He lives in excellent health because you can’t be sickly and be a Wrestler. ³He exercise self control and temperance, keeping away from all that could harm his body or reduce his energy level. ⁴He greatly prioritizes daily bodily exercises and does “mock-fights” constantly in preparation for any sudden contest. ⁵He is always emotionally, mentally and physically contest-ready!

Similarly, Spouses need to be very strong in their spirit man!

When you are strong in your spirit man, you are more fit to use the weapons of warfare and can engage them more effectively. It’s like a Soldier and the weapons of offensive. If a he is weak, sickly and ignorant on how to deploy his weapons of offensive, he is useless to himself and his troop on the battlefront. He’ll either get killed or become a prisoner of war.

Spouses need to be strong in the Lord by being ¹strong in prayer, ² strong in the knowledge of the Word, ³strong in Prayer and Fasting, ⁴strong in Holiness, ⁵strong in Endurance and Patience, ⁶strong in Obedience to God, ⁷strong in Faith, ⁸strong in Faithfulness, ⁹strong in Love and ¹⁰strong in Dutifulness and Abounding in the Work of the Lord.

When Spouses are spiritually strong, they can combat the enemy whenever he comes to attack. And surely he will come; and that’s why you must be ready ahead of his coming.

The Scripture says, “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.”(Proverbs 24:10)
You don’t prepare strength in the day adversity. You do long before the adversary and adversity come. The Patriarch Job was prepared for the day of adversity and so stood strong and was victorious over the enemy. He ended up becoming stronger, mightier and materially wealthier and more prosperous than ever!

Prepare for the day of adversity. Be strong in the bedroom but more importantly, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might!!!
