🔥Yesterday we dwelt more on the first part of Ephesians 6:10 which commands christians, married couples inclusive, to be strong in the Lord.
🔥Today, we’re looking at the second part of that verse. It commands Spouses and indeed all Believers, to be STRONG IN THE POWER OF GOD. This means you should have so much of God’s power in you. And what’s the reason for this command? It’s because we are in a close combat duel with the forces of darkness!(Ephesians 6:12).
🔥How do couples become strong in the power of God and in His might? Here’s how:
🔥(1)BE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
The words of our Lord Jesus Christ in Acts 1:8 shows us the secret of how to be strong in the power of God. Please, read:
“BUT YE SHALL RECEIVE POWER, AFTER THAT THE HOLY GHOST IS COME UPON YOU”(Acts 1:8a)
Being filled with the Holy Spirit is the key to being full of God’s power!
Peter was strong in the power of God after they were filled with the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost and that’s why He preached a burning sermon he never prepared and thousands of souls repented and believed on Jesus Christ instantly!
Paul was full of the Holy Spirit and was therefore strong in the power of God when he spoke to Elymas, the Sorcerer and the enchanter was instantly struck with blindness!(Acts 13: 8-11)
Every time Samson demonstrated great power, he was first filled with the Holy Spirit before accomplishing such feats. Please, read:
“… and behold a young lion roared against him. And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid”(Judges 14:5c-6a).
So Samson was strong in the power of God because of the Holy Spirit’s immediate presence on him at the moment of challenges (Judges 14:19;15:15-16)
Accomplishing any monumental thing in the Lord takes being strong in the Lord by the power of the Holy Spirit (Zechariah 4:6)
🔥(2) HOW DO YOU CONSTANTLY GET FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT?
By asking for a refilling of course.
The Father is ever willing and eager to fill us with the Holy Spirit! Hear what Jesus said:
“If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?”(Luke 11:13)
God is more willing to fill us full with the Holy Spirit than we are even willing to ask as we can see from the verse immediately above. God knows that we need to be strong in His power. So when you ask Him to fill you with His Spirit, He does so gladly.
🔥(3) YOU CAN BE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT AGAIN AND AGAIN
The baptism of the Holy Spirit which the Apostles and the other disciples received on the day of Pentecost wasn’t a “first and last” experience. They sought and successfully received fresh baptisms later. So also can you and your Spouse if you’re born again Christians. Please, read:
“And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.”(Acts 4:31)
🔥(4) FASTING AND PRAYER HEIGHTENS THE DIMENSIONS OF POWER
To be practically strong in the Lord and in the power of His might, it’s important to fortify ourselves with prayer and fasting on a regular basis.
This is because fasting and prayer ushers us into the dimensions of power where stubborn demons have no option but to bow.
Jesus made it clear that there are demons(problems) that will not bow except we are in the level of prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:21)
🔥In conclusion, it’s obvious that being a couple who is strong in the Lord and in the power of His might isn’t something beyond you and your Spouse as you give practical obedience to points 1 to 4 above.
🔥The power of God in us equips us to live a practically victorious life. It also equips us to serve God better and with greater results.
🔥You don’t have to be full-time ministers to serve God effectively. As a couple, you can become a Holy Spirit filled man and woman team that’s committed to God’s work in the area that the Holy Spirit leads you and do exploits for God mightily and with massive results!
