A GOOD MARRIAGE is comparable to a huge jumbo jet, a glamorous limousine or an expensive Yatch. Each of these consists of very many components joined together to make one glorious piece.
The point is, it takes the combination very many things to have a good and harmonious Matrimony. Yesterday, we saw one of them: kindness. Today, we are looking at another and that’s COURTEOUSNESS .
Our anchor scripture tells us to be courteous.
The Online dictionary defines Courteousness as
“the quality of being polite, considerate, and respectful in one’s manner and behavior. It involves showing gracious consideration towards others, often associated with good breeding and dignified behavior.”
The truth is: Marriage is human relationship at it’s very closest and deepest; and you’ll interact with each other in thousands of ways in one single day. In such a close relationship, you must be reasonable enough to mind HOW you treat your partner. Being polite, considerate of their feelings and being respectful towards them become not just good and necessary but imperative and compulsory.
Yes, it’s true that in marriage the husband is the head and the wife is to submit to him. But when it comes to conduct and behaviour in the relationship, each of them owes it to the other to be polite, respectful, considerate and civil!
Be courteous!
Whether in the bedroom or out in the open among others, be courteous. It’s never weakness to be so.
Use terms such as, “May I…”, “Please, could you….” “Kindly….” Never think it’s a mark of boldness to give orders to your husband or wife. They’re not your servant.
Courteousness also means that you’ll mind your voice and tone. Never, never shout at your mate!
Finally, it’s a shame to be impolite, rude, ungracious and unmannerly in marriage. It easily gives you away as not having received proper home training from your parent’s house. Be a good ambassador for your parents: show courteousness towards your spouse.
It pays. There’ll be more peace and tranquility in your marriage and family.
