Enriching Matrimonies

DON’T GIVE UP, KEEP DIGGING!!

Scripture:
‘… AND DIGGED ANOTHER WELL…’
(GENESIS 26:22)

Right now, all you may see in the life of your mate may be lots of annoying traits and weaknesses. But what did Jesus say about God’s gifts? Here’s what He said:

“9 Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 So if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!(Matthew 7:9-11)

Here in the verses of scripture above, we see the loving heart of our Heavenly Father: you would not ask Bread and He would hand you a hard and rocky stone to chew. He gives only Good Things.

Similarly, no one asks God for a good marriage partner and He gives them a bad one. So your marriage partner is a good and perfect gift from God(James 1:7)

Sir/Ma, please hear this:

Your Spouse is comparable to the land of promise that God gave to Abraham.

The Land was indeed good and flowed with milk and honey yet Abraham experienced the challenge of famine in it.

During the time of Isaac, he also experienced famine in the same land.

Were their experiences of famine proof that the land wasn’t good? No.

Similarly, the challenges and dislikes you see in your Spouse and marriage do not mean that you made a mistake in marrying them.

As our anchor scripture tells us, Isaac dug yet another well and the Philistines didn’t oppose him as they’d done again and again in the past.

So as the land that flowed with milk and honey wasn’t without challenges and oppositions, so also every marriage.

How did Abraham win in that land? By determined perseverance and unwavering commitment to God’s calling (Genesis 12:1-3). He was resolute on staying on in the land since it was God Who brought him there(Hebrews 11:15)

How did Isaac win in that land despite hatred, envy and oppositions? By determined perseverance. He never saw the oppositions as excuses to go back to the land of his forefathers. He kept digging new Wells until he digged the Well he named Rehoboth for which the enemies didn’t strive.

Similarly, one of your keys for winning in Marriage is determined perseverance. Make up your mind not to go back through the backdoor of Divorce. God has brought you into marriage with dear your Spouse. The challenges you face aren’t peculiar to you.

As a Spouse, you’re like a Prospector, a Geologist or an Archeologist. These professionals don’t operate with impatience. No. They come prepared stay and to keep digging downward till they find what they’re looking for.

And as usual, they first dig up so much useless rubbish before they finally find gold, petroleum, diamond or some important artefacts!

So also must you be patient. Keep “digging”. How do you dig? By loving your Spouse and living with them according to God’s commandments on Marriage.

Do not yield to the forces that are pushing you to end your marriage. Keep digging and soon you’ll hit the “Gold”, “Diamonds”, etc. of the amazing destiny of your Spouse. Then it will be all too obvious that, indeed, only God gave you your mate and that they’re truly the best for you.
