THE GIFT OF PLEASURE IS FROM GOD and Marriage is one of the places He has specially stockpiled this Delight for Spouses to enjoy and be refreshed as they toil in a world that’s a continual battlefield; a world that’s filled with strife and heartaches.
When God was going to prepare a home for the first couple, He chose Eden, the land of Pleasure. The word Eden means PLEASURE.
When creating the man and the woman, He gave their bodies and minds the capacities to enjoy tactile, auditory, epicurean, visual, olfactory and sexual pleasures.
Man’s ability to enjoy pleasure is natural. It’s part of God’s image in him; because God Himself doesn’t only enjoy pleasure but dwells in the midst of pleasures( Psalm 16:11). And because pleasure is important to Him, He created the whole world for His pleasure (Revelation 4:11).
Furthermore , it’s His will that those who faithfully serve Him enjoy a life of pleasures:
“If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, AND THEIR YEARS IN PLEASURES.”(Job 36:11)
There are many Christians whose view of the life of holiness and righteousness is either completely against pleasure or permits only a highly curtailed consumption of pleasure.
Dearly Beloved, God is not against you enjoying Pleasure. Release yourself from all man-made restrictions that have made you see healthy and life enhancing pleasures as carnality or worldliness.
Our anchor scripture is so important. But some won’t see it as such because it’s not talking about prayer and fasting. Yet it’s message is profound. It commands Spouses to fully and freely enjoy each other while life lasts. It tells us that, the pleasures that Marriage affords us are our specially reserved portion in this life and Spouses should enjoy it.
Growing up you had moral “tutors and minders” around you in form of your parents whose duty included placing restrictions that would help conserve your romantic and sexual powers for use in it’s rightful season which is when you’re married. Once you were married, those “conserved and reserved portion” became available for you and your spouse to give to each other and God expects you to use it freely. Why? Because in a warring world where we face physical, emotional, spiritual and other conflicts, the pleasures of marriage offers consolation, reinvigoration, rejuvenation, mood enhancement and several health benefits.
Have you ever wondered why the Bible calls sexual intimacy WATER? Have you also wondered why it refers to it as WINE?(Proverbs 5:15-17,19; Song 1:2). It’s no accident. Sexual and romantic love in marriage are both Water and Wine. Water sustains life while Wine entertains and refurbishes the emotions. Sexual Intimacy is therefore a vital and indispensable Sustainer and Entertainer that’s placed in your marriage like a big and refreshing Oasis in a harsh and dry desert. Use it freely to sustain and entertain each other often.
