🦃🐓🦆🦜In yesterday’s devotional piece, we said:
“Scientists have filled the earth with things that generations past never thought possible, and they have subdued heights, depths, and distances. It is time for spouses to relentlessly explore their respective marriages and fill them with more joy, friendship, cordiality, deeper affection, entrancing romance, unwaning passion, long-lasting sexual intimacy, etc.”
🩷Yes, it is indeed time for spouses to explore their “marriage universe,” subdue the things that militate against it, root them out, and fill their unions with those sweet features of happy married life that characterised the original marriage long ago in the Garden of Eden.
🦃🐓🦆🦜NOT A HERCULEAN TASK!
And I am delighted to let you know that, unlike the scientist who had so many hurdles to cross before achieving his goal of reaching outer space, exploring the ocean floor, or bringing forth mind-boggling inventions that have changed how we live, communicate, and travel, your task is different and a lot easier.
🤎All you have to do is know what God’s Word says about each aspect of matrimonial life and faithfully obey it. And as you and your spouse do so, your marriage will be transformed into an earthly paradise.
🦃🐓🦆🦜OLD COMMANDMENT YOU ALREADY KNOW
So then, what are the things God commands spouses to observe in marriage? They are, just as the Apostle John said:
“Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning.” (1 John 2:7a)
🧡So, the commandments that will lead to a successful exploration of your marriage are the same Scriptures you’ve been hearing. What will make the difference is your revolutionary obedience.
🩵Today, we’re looking at just one of those wonderful Scriptures and the message it carries.
🦃🐓🦆🦜LEAVE AND CLEAVE
The first duty of spouses in marriage is to LEAVE and CLEAVE. Please read:
“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4–5)
❤️It implies deprioritising all other previous relationships and making your union with each other the most important, most prized, and most cherished bond, immediately after your relationship with God.
💜Cleaving to each other implies sticking together, no matter what! Even when your mate has offended you, betrayed you, backstabbed you, etc., stick to them.
🧡Why? Because by doing so, you’re not being foolish. You’re, instead, walking in wisdom and in tandem with God’s plans and purposes for your marriage.
🤎Yes, you’re exploring your marriage through patience, endurance, sacrificial love, and a sense of maturity that will lead both of you into the next season and phase of your lives together.
♥️Remember Isaac? He realised after the first year of marriage that Rebekah was barren. But instead of withdrawing from her embrace and bringing the “cleaving” to an end, he cleaved to her all the more and started a prayer programme he had never anticipated or prepared for.
🤎The prayer season spanned nearly two decades. Friends, it was no tea party! It was gruelling.
💙The outcome? God ushered them into the next season of their love and marriage: happy parenthood, a new honeymoon that lasted for decades, and a life loaded with daytime romance, wealth, and riches that drove a king crazy!(Genesis 26:13-16;8)
💚Sir/Ma, please hear this. The devil will do everything possible to make you see cleaving to your mate as irrelevant, unnecessary, and uncalled for. He’ll put so much pressure on you by showing you reasons why your mate doesn’t deserve your further embrace, hugs, and sexual intimacy.
🩵But you know what? He is after your next seasons.
💙Cleave to your mate. Whatever faults, weaknesses, and repulsions there might be in their life will be gone by the time you both walk into your next season.
🦃🐓🦆🦜CONCLUSION
Remember that even scientists don’t come up with the very best model of their product in the beginning.
💜The Wright brothers, who invented the aircraft, came out with a plane whose first flight lasted only 12 seconds and covered a distance of 120 feet. But today, we have large passenger aircraft like the Airbus A380, which has a certified capacity of up to 853 passengers.
🩶So, what happened? Time led to the production of new and better models of what the Wright brothers came up with in 1903.
🤍Similarly, there is a new and better model of your marriage. Even more interestingly, there is a new, better, and stunning model of your spouse that will emerge in the near future if you can only be patient and keep exploring each other by investing more love, affection, passion, compassion, kindness, forgiveness, etc., into one another’s life daily.🦃🐓
