Many years ago,
a housewife came for counseling.
It was about the bedroom life of her Marriage.
Her husband was the leader of the music department in their local church. Whenever, it was two days to the unit’s street evangelism/music outreach, he would not sleep with her. Not that he was fasting. He probably felt that sleeping with her would negatively affect the street music-evangelism endeavor.
If he thought so, then it was a costly assumption. Nothing in Scripture suggests that sleeping with one’s spouse before going out for soul winning work on the streets would dampen the Gospel. The Gospel is at any given time the Power of God unto Salvation to every one that believes(Romans 1:16). Or what happens to the presence of the Lord Who faithfully goes out with His workers, confirming the Word with signs following (Mark 16:20)?
The woman also complained that two days to Night Vigils in their local church, her husband would not come to bed for intimacy until the vigil was over. Again, not that he was fasting. And once again, there’s no Scripture to support the young man’s position. It’s mere fanaticism and religious extremism but behold, it was already affecting his wife negatively.
Now, don’t suspect that he might have been sinning behind his wife. He wasn’t. He’s a God-fearing Believer but was in error in this aspect.
The truth is: sleeping with one’s wife before the day of a Night Vigil would not make God refuse to answer the congregation’s prayers.
Another instance:
Many years ago, I personally heard a respected Preacher say that frequently sleeping with one’s Spouse lowers a Believer’s spiritual power. I was in my 20s at the time and less than ten years old in Christ. But that day, something rang off in me and I had a silent knowing that he was wrong. At that time, I never knew that I would one day teach Marriage. Now, it’s been 40 years since I heard him say that. But till this moment, I have yet to find one scripture, let alone two, to buttress that assertion.
The instances sighted above are just a few of the fallacies and “doctrines of devils” that are in circulation in the christian domain.
And it becomes worrisome when church workers and Ministers of the Gospel hold such unwholesome and patently unbiblical views.
But as born again Christians, we are to look at everything through the lenses of the Holy Scriptures.
When you look at God’s lofty and mighty Word, the Bible, you will see matrimonial Sex differently. It’s pure dazzling light and there are no shadows any where near it, let alone darkness! Wow!!!
This is because every gift of God is good and perfect and full of light because God, the Giver, is Light and in Him is no darkness at all !!!
So sexual intimacy in marriage is a Gift that’s filled with the Light of God!
Our anchor scripture, spoken by God Himself(Matthew 19:4-5) on the day He instituted Marriage, shows the pre-eminence and prominence of sexual intimacy in marriage: the glorious act by which marriages are consummated and thereafter consolidated.
It’s an awesome design and creation of God through which Spouses become one flesh and such an act ought to be endlessly celebrated and held in very high esteem by all.
The Holy Spirit writing through Apostle Paul said, “Marriage is honourable in all and The Bed UNDEFILED”(Hebrews 13:4). In that verse, sexual intimacy in marriage is declared pure and immaculate.
In 1 Corinthians 7: 2, it’s presented as the protective amour against sexual immorality and the diseases that go with it.
In 1 Corinthians 7:3, God calls it “Benevolence” which means, “Blessing”!
In Proverbs 5:15-17 it’s called “Water, Cistern, Fountains and Rivers”! In all lands and climes Water is synonymous with life and holds no harm. Similarly, the Water of sexual intimacy in marriage is the fountain of life and holds no harm for Spouses but blessings, bliss and reinvigoration.
In Deuteronomy 24: 5 it’s referred to as “cheering up” and in Proverbs 5:18 it’s referred to as “rejoicing”.
In Song of Solomon 1: 2 and Proverbs 5:19b it’s “Wine” that intoxicates Spouses with Love.
A solemn, sublime and sacred act that God has depicted in such ways as we’ve seen from the scripture verses above would not in any way stand on the way of a married man or woman’s spiritual life. Therefore, don’t be deceived or fooled to believe some pharisaical lies attired in impressive religious costumes.
