AS HUMAN BEINGS, WE WERE CREATED by God in His image and likeness. Since God can feel hurt and offended, so also can we feel hurt and offended when someone behaves wrongly towards us or mistreats us.

Our anchor⚓⚓⚓ scripture shows that when we offend God, He expects us to come before Him in repentance and confession of our Sin. And when we do, He willingly forgives and cleanses🚿🚿🚿🚿 us of the Sin.

Similarly, when a Spouse has offended their Partner, the right thing for them to do is to show true and sincere repentance and ask for forgiveness. But unfortunately, some Spouses are too proud to do these each time they have offended their Partner. The result is that the relationship turns sour, becoming sick and pale; and a complete shadow of what it used to be.

God places great emphasis on the need to repent, apologize and seek forgiveness from those we have offended. And that’s why Jesus commanded:

“THEREFORE IF THOU BRING THY GIFT TO THE ALTAR, AND THERE REMEMBEREST THAT THY BROTHER HATH OUGHT AGAINST THEE, LEAVE THERE THY GIFT BEFORE THE ALTAR, AND GO THY WAY; FIRST BE RECONCILED TO THY BROTHER, AND THEN COME AND OFFER THY GIFT.”(Matthew 5:23-24)

This is because in the sight of God, Peace🌿🌿🌿 with our fellow man is more important than the gifts💷💰🪙💵 we want to present to Him. He values peace, cordiality and harmony between you and your Spouse above the spiritual services you’re frantically trying to offer to Him as Pastor, Bishop, Deacon, Deaconess, Chorister, etc.

How many are busy serving on God’s Altar in Churches⛪⛪⛪⛪ today when they’ve not sincerely apologized, confessed and received forgiveness from their Spouse for some wrong they’ve done?

Some offer insincere apologies, hoping to hoodwink🤪🤪🤪🤪 their Mate. They lightly and hurriedly say, “O’ Girl it’s okay😋😋😋. Let bygone be bygone. Please, where is my food🍛🍛?” But is this how to tender an apology that will heal the wounds of your aching Spouse🤕🤕🤕? If in the Secondary School📚📚📚 you were asked to write a letter📝📝📝 of apology to a Prefect you were rude to, is that what you would write and submit? It’s trash and if you dare submit it, you’re in more trouble.

When you’ve wronged your husband or wife, humble yourself and tender a heartfelt repentance and apology that’s like that of the Prodigal Son(Luke 15:11-32). The Prodigal Son’s repentance was full, profound and touching. His Father could feel the change of heart in him.

I was in big Church sometime ago for Sunday Service and the Pastor told in the course of his sermon how he has knelt down🧎🧎🧎 to apologize to his wife👛👜; and he said he has done it a number of times. As I heard him, I smiled in my seat because it’s something I have done in my Marriage, by the grace of God. There are things you do, not because you’re a fool but because you’re a child of God and you don’t want the Trumpet blast of Christ’s return to sound while there’s guiltiness in your heart.

As a wife👑👛👜 or a husband🧢🥾🎩, be quick to admit your fault when you’re wrong and be down-to-earth in your repentance and asking your Mate’s forgiveness. When you both live like this as a couple, your Marriage will not lose it’s sweetness🍯 🍯 🍯 and pleasantness ☕ 🫖 ☕ 🫖 ☕ 🫖!

Finally, when your Mate sincerely and humbly repents and seeks your forgiveness, please pardon them. Don’t be hard-hearted and refuse to forgive because when you refuse to forgive your Spouse, God will also not forgive your own Sins.
