ONE OF THE GREATEST BLESSINGS OF BEING BORN AGAIN IS THAT the Holy Spirit comes and takes residence in you. His mission is to help you, teach you and lead you as to what you should do and what you shouldn’t. It becomes very important that you always remember to allow Him lead the way, while you follow. Our concern today is the need for you to consciously depend on Him in your Marriage and Family Life. Whatever you want to do as a couple, take time to pray🙏🙏🙏 about it and thereafter check your inner man or your spirit man to sense what the Holy Spirit is saying. Of course, God will basically lead you by His written Word📖📖📖, the Bible. But the Holy Spirit is in you to give you a Red-Light🚨🚨🚨 to say HALT, DON’T GO FORWARD or a Green-Light🚥🚥🚥 saying YES, GO AHEAD! He does this, especially in critical situations. You need a Nanny, a Cook🍪🥮🥧, a Gardener🪴🍁🌲 or a new Driver🚘🚘🚘🚘? Pray together and check your spirits to hear what the Holy Spirit is saying. A seemingly good and harmless opportunity has popped up for you to go abroad with your family where you’ll work and be paid in hard currency💷💶💶💵💰? Again take time to pray and then check your spirit man to sense what the Holy Spirit is saying. You feel like bringing a suffering Widow into your home to live under your roof because your heart is almost breaking over her plight? Great idea! But please, first consult the Holy Spirit and get His direction!!! Why do you need to do all these? It’s because all that glitter is not gold; and things are not always as they appear. And it’s not every good work that you must do. Some good works could land you in jail⛓⛓⛓ for years. And it’s not every birthday, funeral, wedding, etc, that you must attend because your big Jeep is so strong, so sturdy and capable of travelling the worst of roads. You need clearance from the Holy Spirit to know if you should make that journey or not. Jesus commanded us to go into ALL THE WORLD and evangelize. But as we can see in our anchor passage, Apostle Paul and his team were FORBIDDEN by the Holy Spirit from preaching in Asia and Bithynia! Why? Well, we wouldn’t know the exact reasons. It probably was to protect the Apostle, his team and the Gospel itself. Thank God, Paul and his team were sober enough to hear the Holy Spirit and they promptly obeyed. Similarly, be sober and sensitive as a couple to hear📢📣🔉🔊 what the Holy Spirit has to say about every emerging situation in your marriage and home. A sixteen years old girl ran away from her home to another city because she was terrified of her mother who was Satanist. A Church, seeing her condition, took her in and gave her a room in the mission compound. Six months after, the most unexpected happened! The Pastor of the Church abandoned his wife and children and ran away with the girl! The girl they helped was used by the devil to break up their marriage and home. Hearing from the Holy Spirit would have saved that Pastor🎤🎤🎤, as the Holy Spirit would have warned him not to bring her into the Church compound. It’s good to be sympathetic, compassionate and full of empathy but there’s a need to not let these godly sentiments lead us. We must let the Holy Spirit lead us: “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God”(Romans 8:14) I’ve shared the following story in a past devotional piece but let me still do because it might help someone. A Preacher was dismissed and evicted from his residence by the Church he was serving. Another Servant of God in town had compassion on him and brought him into his home. Not long after, the host Pastor travelled. While he was away, the dismissed Preacher took over his bedroom and, sadly, his wife betrayed him and cooperated with the dismissed Preacher; and it was Adultery galore night after night in his home while he was away. By the time the genuine Man of God returned and heard what was going on in his house, he reported to the local Preachers’ Association who ordered the wicked Preacher to leave the town immediately. Guess what? As he was leaving, the Pastor’s wife packed her things and followed him! If the benevolent Preacher🎤🎤🎤🎤 had first asked the Holy Spirit, he definitely would have been warned not to take the dismissed preacher into his home. But now, his compassion had led to the ruin of his Marriage. It’s true that the Scripture tells us not to forget to entertain strangers(Hebrews 13:2).
