FOR SPOUSES: WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU’RE AT YOUR WIT’S END

Scripture:
‘1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. 3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. 4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. 6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. 7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. 9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: 10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. 11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.’
(LUKE 5: 1-11)

OUR SCRIPTURE PASSAGE FOR TODAY PRESENTS the story of a married fisherman by name, Simon, who left his wife and family to catch fish. He came out at the most advantageous time for fishing: the night season.

He toiled diligently all night long but caught nothing; not even one of the smallest fishes strayed into his net. He kept toiling, and perhaps also praying, still the situation didn’t change until the full break of day.

He calmly paddled his boat to the shore, got down and began washing his net that was now both dirty and stuck at different points with marine weeds.

We have no idea how much turmoil must have invaded Simon’s mind that morning. He probably came fishing to meet some urgent family needs. But, behold, there was no fish to sell and he was going to go back home with an empty fish basket.

But just as Simon was washing his fishing Net, the Son of God strode to the seashore. Of all the boat owners on the shore that morning, he didn’t approach anyone but Simon, whom He requested for the use of his boat. Simon willingly have him his boat.

After his sermon, Jesus asked Simon to go back to the Lake again and fish. Fishing in the same place where he’d toiled for hours and caught NOTHING?

Well, Simon chose not to argue. He obeyed the Preacher, even though he’d never met him before. The result of that simple obedience was a net-breaking catch that left Simon shocked and thoroughly astonished.

Dear husband and wife, I don’t know where you are right now in your marital journey. Perhaps, you’ve come to a “breaking point” where it seems that you can’t take any more of the pains that life is throwing at you. You’re emotionally broken, confused and don’t know what else to do or where else to turn.

Dearly Beloved, this devotional piece is a message to let you know that God isn’t only aware of your dilemma but is close by you and holding your miracle in His hand RIGHT NOW; just like He came to Peter in his dark moment of despair holding his miracle in His hand!

In Psalm 107, we read of seafaring men who were on the verge of perishing at Sea. Just like Peter, they’d done everything they knew to get out of the great storm that had encircled them but failed. Let’s read about them:

“They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, AND ARE AT THEIR WIT’S END.

THEN THEY CRY UNTO THE LORD IN THEIR TROUBLE, AND HE BRINGETH THEM OUT OF THEIR DISTRESSES.”(Psalm 107: 27-28)

When they had exhausted all the “techniques” for escaping storms at Sea and made no headway and were at their wit’s end, THEY CRIED OUT TO GOD! Yes, they PRAYED! And when they prayed, GOD ANSWERED THEM AND THE STORM CEASED!

Dearly Beloved, you’re going to PRAY AGAIN. Even if you’ve already literally spent years praying on that matter without results, please don’t be tired. Arise and begin a new wave of prayers.

Please, read these Scriptures:

“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: IS THERE ANY THING TOO HARD FOR ME?” (Jeremiah 32: 27)

“O THOU THAT HEAREST PRAYER, UNTO THEE SHALL ALL FLESH COME.” (Psalm 65: 2)

According to the two scriptures above God is the God of all flesh including you and He’s the One unto ALL FLESH COME in their hour of distress and pains.

So, you have the CREATION RIGHTS to call upon God and tell Him your pains and HE’LL HEAR YOU AND SAVE YOU. Forget how much prayers you’ve invested in the past without results. Remember Jesus told Simon to throw his net into the same Lake where he’d cast the same nets hundreds of times without success. But because he OBEYED, he took an astonishing net-breaking and boat sinking catch. Please, walk in his footsteps and pray again and keep praying until your miracle comes.

For Spouses who are waiting for the blessing of the fruit of the womb, it’s on my spirit to tell you this: renew lovemaking alongside praying. Even if you’re both in your 60s,70s or above, renew sexual intimacy. Remember the example of Abraham and Sarah. They kept making love. Why? Because they believed God would fulfill His promise. And since they didn’t know the time of the fulfilment they kept playing their part of having sexual intimacy. You can’t be trusting God for the fruit of the womb and despise Sex. Resume it if you stopped. And do it on an increased or accelerated scale:

“Sow your seed in the morning,

and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.” (Ecclesiastes 11:6)

It’s a most important part of exercising your FAITH. Faith without works is dead.

πŸ·πŸ— TAKE-HOME LESSON: EVEN IF YOU’VE PRAYED OVER THAT CRITICAL MATTER FOR YEARS WITHOUT RESULTS, PLEASE DON’T GIVE UP! PRAY ANEW! GOD STILL ANSWERS PRAYER AND WILL ANSWER YOU AS YOU PRAY AGAIN AND AGAIN. REMEMBER THE PERSISTENT AND IMPORTUNATE WIDOW IN LUKE CHAPTER 18.

HER PERSISTENCE BROKE THE HARD HEART OF THE WICKED JUDGE. YOUR PERSISTENCE WILL DRAW GOD’S COMPASSION AND TENDER MERCIES TOWARDS YOU AND YOUR CASE!
