ON 23 JUNE 1993, A HOUSEWIFE in Manassas, USA, tiptoed stealthily towards her sleeping husband, removed his covering sheets, swiftly cut off his penis with the kitchen knife in her hand and fled the home in her car; throwing out the lifeless penis through the car window as she drove off. What made her commit this heinous and unimaginable crime? Anger and bitterness because, according to her, her husband had beaten and sexually assaulted her throughout their marriage.
In the Philippines, a 55 years old housewife cut off the penis of her husband because, according to her, when they were making love one of the previous nights, he was moaning and calling the name of another woman. Consequently, jealousy and rage were kindled in her heart and the next best thing she could think of doing to him was to cut off his manhood.
In another incident in South America, a housewife cutoff the penis of her husband and flushed it down the toilet to avoid the possibility of it being surgically reattached. Her reason? Her husband had Sex with her teenage niece!
The last instance: an African man in Britain smashed his wife’s skull with a skiing board and was arrested, tried and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Dear Spouses, how come that so glorious an institution as Marriage should become the theatre of sorrow and a gateway to the Prison?
How come that after the glitz, glitter and glamour of the Wedding Day, most Spouses so soon forget that they’re now in MARRIAGE: a holy, sublime and lofty institution set up by no less a Personage than God Himself? How come that instead of being endlessly grateful for the ceaseless blessing that our spouses and our marriages are, we’re instead critical, judgemental and unappreciative?
Dearly Beloved, Marriage is a glorious blessing. And the key to enjoying it as a daily celebration and thrill that it truly is(Ecclesiastes 9:9), is to give obedience to the whole counsel of God on Marriage as found in the Bible.
Furthermore, obedience to the Word of God on Marriage helps to bring out the best of each of you instead of the opposite.
But if you choose NOT to live your married life according to God’s Word but by the dictates of your own mind, the worst of you is what your mate will experience. And when you treat your Mate to the worst of you for so long, you don’t only fall out of favour with them but they gradually change negatively and that’s why you hear of strange behaviours by Spouses, such as the instances cited earlier in this message.
So, what should you do? If you DON’T WANT your Spouse to transform into an enemy overnight, then love them as God has commanded.
Yes, husband love your wife supremely, faithfully and ceaselessly. And wife, submit yourself to the authority of your husband in your home. Don’t for any reason be heady or stubborn.
Living your married lives in full obedience to God’s Word transforms both of you into gentle, softhearted and God-fearing Lovebirds. And God-fearing and pious Lovebirds don’t quarrel or fight, let alone taking up metal weapons to hit their Partner or cutting their bodily members off.
