GOD’S WORD TRANSFORMS BEDROOMS (PT. 6)

Scripture:
‘THE WIFE HATH NOT POWER OF HER OWN BODY, BUT THE HUSBAND: AND LIKEWISE ALSO THE HUSBAND HATH NOT POWER OF HIS OWN BODY, BUT THE WIFE.’
(1 CORINTHIANS 7:4)

🎁🎂📯🎉🎀As we gradually move towards bringing this seven-part devotional teaching to an end, we shall be looking at the divinely ordained “body-rights exchange” in marriage. A proper understanding of this concept and compliance with it will serve as a means of renewal to your individual and mutual love lives as a couple.

🎁🎂📯🎉🎀INDIVIDUALITY ENDS
Our anchor scripture for today is a divine declaration that, in marriage, spouses’ former exclusive rights or ownership of their bodies, nakedness, and sexuality end once they are married. Why? Because marriage makes you and your spouse one flesh in the fullest, deepest, and most profound sense, such as exists in no other relationship.

🍾For instance, Laban referred to Jacob as his flesh and blood (Genesis 29:14), but we know that being kith and kin does not extend to the bedroom. The same reference was made by Judah to Joseph when he made his evil suggestion that they sell him into slavery rather than take his life (Genesis 37:27). All the men of Israel said a similar thing to David in Hebron: “We are your own flesh and blood” (2 Samuel 5:1).

🍹But, as already observed, being of one flesh and blood by family ties does not extend into the realms of nakedness and sexuality. It is only in marriage that a one-flesh relationship involves the mutual sharing of nakedness and sexuality. In marriage, spouses are given total freedom and access to each other’s bodies. However, this is by no means a licence to abuse or violate a mate’s personal rights to privacy at certain times.

🎁🎂📯🎉🎀REASON FOR MUTUAL RIGHTS
In God’s economy, nothing is a waste. Put another way, the mutual rights of ownership of each other’s bodies, nakedness, and sexuality are not given without reason.

🎹Basically, these rights are given because they are necessary. The reasons include, among others, the necessity of procreation (Genesis 1:28), avoidance of sexual immorality (1 Corinthians 7:2), protection against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) (1 Corinthians 7:2), and the satisfaction of the recurrent sexual urge that is natural in husbands and wives. There are, of course, other reasons.

🎁🎂📯🎉🎀RECEIVE NOT THE GIFT IN VAIN
In 2 Corinthians 6:1, St. Paul exhorts Christians not to receive the grace of God in vain. No endowment of God is meant to be kept unutilised. Your sexuality is a divine endowment. If you are celibate, it is understandable that you do not utilise it. But when you are married, you ought to use it optimally. And if you feel that you do not need to use it, definitely, your spouse does not feel that way.

👏Even if you are both agreed on not having children, sexual intimacy is important because it is God’s means of renewing the one-flesh bond as it is continually expressed. You both need the emotional and physiological harmony, accord, and peace it fosters. Therefore, use it to benefit each other.

🎈And remember, it is called “due benevolence” in the King James Version of the Bible (1 Corinthians 7:3). Benevolence therein means blessing. So, there are practically innumerable blessings inherent in having sexual intercourse as a couple. Maximise them!

🎁🎂📯🎉🎀YOUR USAGE GIVES GOD PLEASURE
Do you know that everything, including human sexuality, exists practically for one major purpose? Yes, that is true. That purpose is the pleasure of God.

🎹We all exist for God’s pleasure (Revelation 4:11). Everything we do in righteousness and holiness glorifies God and gives Him pleasure.

🧡The Scripture also makes it clear that God feels the pain and pleasure of His children (Matthew 25:40, 45; Acts 9:4–5). This means that whatsoever we do that gives our spouse, who is a child of God, pleasure or pain instantly transmits the exact same feelings to God.

🥪If you understand this, you will not turn your spouse away when they come to you hungry for sex, thirsty for intercourse, naked and vulnerable to temptations because of its lack, or when they are surrounded (imprisoned) by hordes of hell that are heavily pressuring them to capitulate to infidelity.

🫖Remember, you are in their life to make God happy and to give Him pleasure by meeting the sexual needs of your spouse and saving them, especially if they are born again. Please do not fail Him.

🎁🎂📯🎉🎀CONCLUSION
When your mate approaches you in their moment of sexual hunger, remember the Lord and, for His sake, attend to them. The exception, however, is when it is not scripturally proper for you to do so, or when they ask for “stone, serpent, or scorpion” instead of “bread, fish, or egg.” Let me explain.

🍿If your spouse asks for any devilish forms of sex, such as anal sex, threesomes, bestiality, wife swapping, group sex, etc., they are asking for stone, serpent, or scorpion. Never, never consent!

🍯Your Heavenly Father, even though extremely generous, never gives stones, serpents, or scorpions (Luke 11:11–13). Walk in His footsteps. Never give your mate stone, serpent, or scorpion, no matter how long and hard they beg.📯🎀
