IT IS SAID THAT FAMILIARITY BREEDS CONTEMPT. Well, this is only true in the world of common minds. For great minds, Familiarity is a prized asset. What the commoner calls Familiarity, great minds call Intimacy; and consequently, they do not abuse it. Instead they esteem and treasure it. So, living under the same roof with your Spouse and seeing their physical nakedness, faults, strengths and weaknesses isn’t Familiarity but INTIMACY; and Intimacy should breed Honour, Respect, Appreciation and Reverence! It should never breed disregard let alone contempt!
When you meet your Governor, how do you talk to him? With a lot of respect, of course. Yes, you talk to him with so much respect! Infact, you count it an honour to have been privileged to talk with him. Why? Because of his status: he is the Governor of your State! Because you highly respect him, you will not make the mistake of shouting at him no matter how angry a person you are ordinarily. While you are with Mr. Governor, your senses are alert and you control yourself, minding what you say, how you say them and how you behave: all because you’re with His Excellency, the Executive Governor! Yes, you behave honorably because you’re with a man of honour. You put on a Very Impressive Personality (VIP) because you’re with a Very Important Personality(VIP).
What can we learn from the last paragraph? They’re basically these:
(a)The amount of RESPECT you have for any one (or anything) determines how you treat them.(b)The amount of respect you have for a person CONTROLS OR REGULATES YOUR BEHAVIOUR towards them. That’s why you hear some people say: “It’s because she was the one, that’s why I kept quiet. Otherwise, she would have seen the other side of me.”
Now, does the Governor personally contribute anything to your Life? “No!”, you answer. If you profoundly respect a Man that contributes nothing to your Life, how much more should you RESPECT AND HONOUR your beloved Spouse who contributes so much to your life EVERYDAY?
If you can never shout at or be rude or insolent to your Governor, General Overseer, Bishop, Senior Pastor, Pastor, etc who are also human beings like your Spouse, all because of the name or tag of their offices, how much more should you Honour and Respect your Spouse, who bears the name Husband/Wife, an office in Marriage: God’s first institution on planet Earth; an institution that’s older than Governments and the Church?
In the sight of God, your Spouse is the highest human being in your Life! If you treat your political and religious leaders with decorum, then treat your Spouse with so much respect as well! They deserve no less.
