THE MESSAGE
ONE OF THE KEYS TO ENJOYING A SWEET, STABLE AND HAPPY Marriage is humility and servanthood.
In our anchor scripture for today, we see how Jesus conducted Himself as he lived with his twelve disciples. All throughout the three and half years of his Ministry, He didn’t play “The Big Boss.” Instead, He was a Servant in the midst of those He led. He served them meals again and again and again. On the eve of His crucifixion, He washed their feet and wiped them with the towel with which He was girded. It was his lifestyle to play the role of a Servant even though He is the Lord and Master of the universe! He has showed us that humility and servanthood do not rubbish or alter your true status.
In Matthew 11:29B, He said: “LEARN OF ME: FOR I AM MEEK AND LOWLY IN HEART”. By these words He commands us all to walk in His footsteps by living lives of meekness and humility. And where should we start? In our Marriage and with our Spouse.
When Spouses live lives of humility and servanthood in their relationship with one another, there will be no room for PRIDE and ARROGANCE the twin elements that often cause clashes and crisis in Marriages. Instead there’ll be a multiplication of unity and favour between the Spouses!
Sir/Ma, you need FAVOUR in the sight of your Marriage Partner! One of the things that will earn you favour with them and make them draw nearer and closer to you is humility and servanthood demonstrated in thoughtful, loving and helpful services you go out of your way to render to them from day to day.
Love is actually all about SERVICE. It’s about setting your own needs aside and helping the other person out. With this understanding, let Spouses rise up and eagerly serve one another and see Peace, Love and Favour multiplied in their union!
